RE: Samsung 709 suitable region 1 Disc ????

I don`t think that it matters that much, but I used Alien.

Where was the Jesusification site again?

There was a link to a site that would "Jesusify" web pages mentioned a while ago. I`ve done a search and not been able to find it. Does anyone have the URL?

RE: Forum design?

Thanks Robert, this`ll make a great site even better.

Forum design?

Any chance of changing the forum style so that the full text of a thread can be seen at once. The current layout means that you have to select a message, read it, click the back button, wait on a refresh, and click the next message. This approach makes it time-consuming, and less likely that a user will take the time to read a full thread.

A good example of the forum style is at http://www.digiguide.com/forum/default.asp

New porta-DVD?

I`m intrigued by the Pioneer PDV-LC10 DVD player you`ve mentioned on the Region 2 news. If it is truly "display-less" does this mean that you have to carry your own 32" widescreen inflatable telly to watch it on? Otherwise what is the advantage of it being portable? Or is this another one of your classic typos such as the regionless players that don`t play DVDs from any region?!

RE: What about a DVD release date summary page?

Thanks Robert. I thought you were slacking there - only down to several site updates a day, you must be getting lazy! This one will keep you busy and improve an already great site.

PS Can I get one of the many review machines you must be getting for that complement?! ;-)

RE: What about a DVD release date summary page?

I was meaning those releases that were mentioned on the news pages. Do you know of other releases that you`re not mentioning?!

What about a DVD release date summary page?

What about having a release date summary page for region 1 and 2 DVDs that is sortable by name and date.

You put a lot of work into your daily news updates, and it seems a shame not to take more advantage of the info by having it listed in a summarised format. What would be even better is hyperlinks for each film to the relevent news page (which of course would be even more work...)

Philips Hackathon

This is a new first for DVD players (see news for 2nd March 2000):

"We have also posted a hack which DISABLES ALL REGIONS on the Philips DVD-Pro 170 model"

Most people want their DVDs to be multi-region - still a player that doesn`t play any region would be kind of novel!

RE: Samsung 709 and DVD Reviewer

I`m surprised. You guys run such a professional web site that I thought manufacturers would be falling over themselves to send players to you. (Of course should this happen, I`d be able to provide a good home for one!)

Samsung 709 and DVD Reviewer

Robert,

Didn`t you say somewhere that you were going to borrow a 709 to look into the hack? Assuming that I wasn`t hallucinating, how did you get on?

RE: ADDITIONAL AIWA REMOTE CONTROL HACK

I`ve got a 3.27 version of the 709, and couldn`t permanently hack it until a cold reset. I managed this (and put it into adjust mode) by pressing the "clock" key three times quickly on an Aiwa RC-T506 control.

RE: A solution to hack the samsung 709.

I think you`ve missed my point. I couldn`t get the permanent hack to work, and tried to get the "cold start" to work on my UK-bought player, and the suggested steps to do this didn`t do it...

RE: A solution to hack the samsung 709.

I`ve tried the above "cold start" without success. If I switch the 709 on without a disk (whether I press stop and "start" or not), then all I get is "no disc".

I also tried with a region 2 Matrix in, and the player then told me to check the region for the disk and wouldn`t play it (although all was ok when I opened and closed the player).

The player is a UK-bought one, which has had the eprom updated. Is the cold start option for French players? or non-updated players?

Regards

RE: Problem With a Samsung 709

I don`t think that the problem is necessarily a "French" one, as I have the same problem, and I bought mine from Comet in Edinburgh...
