Page 1 of TV License to go up £30 !!!
General Forum
Well I have a pretty big gripe as to why I have to pay a licence to the BBC to enable me to watch ITV, C4, C5 etc etc anyway so it is fair to say I am not a supporter of this.
I feel that if a licence has to be paid, and if I dont pay it I am not supposed to watch the other channels, then the other channels should get a cut of it, or we should be able to watch them without recourse if no licence is bought
I personally do not think there are that many great shows on BBC these days (note I am not saying I dont find stuff to watch on it but I could go without) and I for one dont feel that an extra £30 is therefore justifiable
£30 on £130 is a 23% - ish - increase which is rediculous and way above inflation. Where do these increases stop? will they be annual? (bet they will be if the BBC think they can get away with it) christ according to that article the BBC wanted £18 more - so a total of £180
Total disgrace in my opinion
RE: TV License to go up £30 !!!
What`s so unfair is that it is a compulsory charge! Given the choice, I too would opt to abandon the Beeb completely to save that money.
I pay for Sky`s family package or whatever it`s called (Just over £20 a month for everything except Movies and Sport) but that is my choice. This is why I don`t watch BBC much.
The governmewnt should wake up to the fact that TV is changing and either commercialise the Beeb and scrap the licence fee or make it optional.

I could really, really go on a rant about the TV licence...but I`ll leave it at this: the only thing I ever watch on the BBC is Match of the Day, and I would quite happily watch Sky`s Goals on Sunday programme instead, since I never watch MotD on a Saturday night anyway.
We`re in the digital age, and I shouldn`t have to pay for something I don`t use. The TV licence is an illegal tax.

The BBC have become dictators, surely something has got to be done about these ridiculous price hikes.

Thats a bloody good point,in the age of digital television (of which BBC also make money as they part own freeview) surely we could be given the choice of receiving BBC channels or not.

But while we are banging on about freeview, Two companys allready have tried and failed to give us free multi channel tv. On Digital and ITV Digital. With out the BBC (our money granted) we may not have the option of free multi channel digital tv.

Imagine what the cost will be in 10-15 years time, if they keep increasing it at this rate. Tossbags.
Giggity giggity!

But the Government said its research had proved viewers would be happy to pay extra for the BBC.
Those who can afford it probably would, what about those who cant...?
Nice one Tony and Co....

Or we could do what they do in most of mainland Europe, which is to have a license fee and still broadcast adverts on all channels - although the license is often quite a bit lower than ours.
Some interesting information here.
To be honest, I only really watch BBC channels (1-4) together with a bit of Channel4 so I don`t mind paying a fee - although it would be nice if it could not go up too much more in future.
