R.I.P Chris Benoit (WWE Superstar)

jakeyh (Competent) posted this on Monday, 25th June 2007, 22:33

It has just been reported that WWE Superstar Chris Beniot has been found dead in his home with his Family.

Below is the statement taken from wwe.com.

Quote:
World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

Tonight's Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

I read Yesterday that he had been called back to his home due to a family crisis, & then he never showed up for last nights WWE Night of Champions where he was due to wrestle C.M. Punk for the vacant ECW World Heavyweight Title.

May I be the first to send out my condolences to the Benoit Family`s relatives.

He will be missed.

R.I.P. Chris Beniot

I am absolutely gutted by the news. People trash wrestling, often for very, very good reason, but some performers still reminded me of the great art of the "sport". Chris Benoit was one of those, and was in fact, my favourite wrestler. The news that his wife and son have also died make this even more tragic.

My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Chris, in a business which made its name with storylines and talkers he was the supreme wrestler and athlete and reminded me of our own Dynamite Kid. He will be sorely missed and on a side note with the amount of top class wrestlers dying in the last couple of years I really think the money men need to look at themselves and put the performers 1st and money 2nd......

I hope im wrong but the one i feared for recently is Kurt Angle. :(

Here is latest Update from WWE.com.

Benoit`s death part of a double murder-suicide

Quote:
According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday's live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE's Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff's Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit's new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities' findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff's Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Let`s just hope after hearing this that he is just remembered as one the greatest wrestler`s of the modern era and not the person capable of such an horriific crime!

Unfortunately as good a wrestler as he was Chris Benoit is now a murderer who took the life of a child.
As a parent myself i cannot condone this in anyway and feel that the WWE should not continue to pay tribute to the man at this time regardless of what extenuating circumstances there may or may not have been.
I for one will not be watching Raw until such time as it is proven that what they are saying happened did not.

Well, this is the thing. Ive read a few times that the Legend of Benoit shouldnt be tainted with this.

Well, to be honest, it should. If its true, being a child killer seriously outweighs being an `awesome wrestler`.

To invoke an awesome Italian Godwin, Mussolini isnt remembered for his services to the locomotive industry.

On a side note, I heard an interview with him on H+J a few months back and he was one of he few wrestlers ive heard that could break character and didnt sound like a crazy `roid head.

Benoit had the reputation of being a quiet, respectful, ultra hard-working performer. He was also the best wrestler of his generation.

More details about exactly what happened should arrive by this evening, our time. Allegedly, one of the police officers involved has stated that this case is going to be even more bizarre by the time we know all the facts.

I don`t want to speculate on what happened before the police make another statement, but it looks like the worst-case story, could be the most truthful one.

If the current reports are accurate, NTG is of course correct:

I have to say that I am pretty much stunned by this event. As Brian says, Benoit had a reputation for being one of the most respected and hard working wrestlers in the business - something like this just seems to knock you sideways (moreso than the death of eddie guerrerro)

They are currently saying that he shot his wife and child and turned a gun on himself. This can only have been done though deep depression, or being as high as a kite on steriods/other drugs. Nothing seems to make sense in this one.

He will, sadly, now be tainted as a murderer rather than a wrestler, and if the leaked information is true he wont have a legacy as this will have been replaced by a horror story. I for one, will be following this one with interest as for the years that I watched wrestling, The Crippler was a personal favourite of mine.
