Any good bargain book shops on the net?
Buying books on Amazon new & used is an absolute con, you think you`re getting a bargain, but really your not, as the postage and packaging on a book that cost just 1p is £2.75!!!
I suppose it`s brilliant if you`re buying a recently released hardback book for a £1, but I was about to buy a bunch of children books which came to the total of around £14, but then when P&P was added, it came to £40! It would have been cheaper getting them from town.
So does anyone know of a good internet site that sells bargain books, and has a reasonable p&p?

Try The Book People.
Google it, my good lady and I have used them for years now and are extremely pleased with the prices and range :)

http://www.kelkoo.co.uk/ it will show you the price with p&p
I thought with Amazon if you spend over a certain amount p&p was free. I guess though all things have to be from Amazon themselves
play.com do books, free p&p

The book people are usually fairly reasonable. We got some books for the children 3 for 2 offer instore at waterstones. I think there might be a 10% off online at moment.
I`ve give up using Amazon books when I had poorly wrapped hardbacks that arrived all damaged. Took a few attempts to get them in a good state (isn`t it usually free p & p over £15?).

Charity shops, you can find some great bargains, and sometimes some very recent ones too.

Thank you all for your help, I`m after Badjelly the Witch by Spike Milligan and The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.

I`ve used the Book Depository and have been impressed - often cheaper than Amazon and with free P&P (which is also quicker than Amazon)
They have Badjelly the Witch for £6.24 (more expensive than Amazon) and The Iron Man for £3.46 (cheaper)
I`ve also used Tesco Books which have been competitive but you have to spend over £20 to get free P&P.

Amazon do do free delivery over £15, but not when it`s a marketplace seller - that`s when the £2.75 per item thing comes in. This is often the reason that the books are priced at 1p IMO - they`re catering for the fact that they will make some money on the shipping charge (which is set by Amazon, not the sellers).
