Speed points fine increase for drivers who refuse to tell
As from today drivers that refuse to say who are driving a vehicle when caught speeding with have the points increased from 3 to 6 :D
mmm chocolate
RE: Speed points fine increase for drivers who refuse to tell
What is refusing to say ?
To me,refusing to say is the police having a clear photograph of the driver, the owner can prove it isn`t them, but they still refuse to identify the driver.
That`s one thing.
However, the police having no clear photogrpahic evidence and the owner not being able to remember who may have been driving is not refusing to identify.
I`d be interested to see the clear cut definition.

In most countries in the world it would be illegal to make a person incriminate themselves.

Ludicrous,isn`t it.
Guilty until proven innocent.
Admit it was you and we`ll cut you a deal.
Go on,you`re only making it worse for yourself.
F***ing unbe-f***ing-lievable. >:(

im surprised they`ve not said 6 points and a bigger fine - that way they can again try and confuse financial penalties as a deterrent with tax raising methods

This is s***e.
Three yeras ago picked up a speeding ticket (camera) - got the fine in three weeks after the crime. Both the wife and i use the car and we had know idea who was driving.
So called the Police and said if I asked to see the photo then the fine would go up - so in the end my wife took the points and i took the fine.
So do we now have to keep a f***ing hire log of who drives the car each fecking hour.
Bunch of tossers the lot of em (having bad day at work :/ )

Eh ?
That can`t be right,surely ?
They can fine you more just for asking to see proof ?
Quite incredible.
Basically, they are able to fine and endorse with impunity then ? :(

I thought if you request the photo they have to provide you with it. I dont see how they can then charge you for the priveledge of seeing the proof they claim to have
I was once told it is something you should do as the police have on occasion decided its cheaper not to start doing this postal work and follow up letter writing etc and drop it

Depends what you mean by `provide`.
They won`t post it to you.
They will, however, let you see it if you go to their premises.
Given that it could be at the other end of the country,it can be a problem.
I`d like to see a breakdown of speeding cases.
I`d like to know how many pay the fine because they actually know they did it,and how many pay up simply because the system makes anything else a right pain. :(

o/ one vote there for that one as I`ve said before.
This is basically running up the same argument that the two guys who`ve gone to the European Court`s have. They say that by NOT stating who the driver was you are subject to 3 points and "up to" £1000 fine. State who it was and they get 3 points and £60.
Now they double the points for you not knowing the driver.
I think the terms they have used is that it`s "Obtaining a confession under duress"
I`m with them. Scrap the cameras, put more traffic cars out on the street that have a brain in their heads and can accept that a few MPH over the limit on an empty dual carriageway in excellent conditions is less dangerous than dead on 30 in p***ing rain.
(that excludes those doing the A730 in Rutherglen who are basically a human camera and giving a bad name to Traffic coppers in the area.)
