What are the film moments for surround sound ?
I`m getting a 5.1 sound setup this Christmas, and I was wondering, what are the best film moments to demostrate it at its best ?
Any suggestions ?
RE: What are the film moments for surround sound ?
I usually use the following scenes when showcasing my system.
1. The pod racing scene on "The Phantom Menace".(index 21....i think)
2. The shoot out scene near the end, when they go to rescue "Morpheus" on the "The Matrix".
3. The T-Rex scene..........where it turns over the car........ on "Jurassic Park".
4. Jet coming into land on the beginning of "Die Hard".
Hope this helps......sorry if it is a bit vague.......but i suppose it will give you some sort of idea.

Saving Private Ryan - opening beach sequence
Titan AE - pre-credit sequence
Star Wars TPM - Pod Race
Heat - the aftermath of the heist

Hello,
My Personal Favourites are....
1) Star Wars - Pod Race.
2) Chicken Run - The Pie Machine.
3) Saving Private Ryan - The Beach bit.

Mission to Mars - bit of a crap film, but has one of the best sound `steering` sequences I`ve ever seen.
Cannot remember the chapter number, but it`s called something like "Go for landing" in the chapter selection screens.
You hear the Earth Space station commander giving the Go for landing order to the Mar rescue crew whilst the camera does a 270 degree pan. His voice travels right round the room - spooky!

Apocalypse Now - attack on the village
Aliens - when all hell breaks loose.
Blade - motorcycle sequence
Gladiator - The Barbarian Horde
Family Christmas is it? :D

Lost in Space - take off through to robot going mad sequence.
Final Fantasy - opening sequence

Other than those mentioned previously:
The pod launching sequence from Contact (also very good for testing the .1 bit)
Underworld live (how to use 5.1 with music properly)
Dark City (when the city gets rearranged around Rufus Sewell)
Various bits of Pitck Black

Man, this is what DVD is all about in my opinion !
1. Heat : as well as the heist, the chase scene at the end across LAX with jets flying overhead turns your front room into a set of flight paths - awesome. Also check out the scene where Pacino chases de Niro in the helicopter - pretty darned loud too.
2. Ronin - Chapter 25 - Parisian Pursuit : still THE best car chase ever committed to 5.1
3. LA Confidential : the shoot out in the cabin - listen for those gunshots coming atcha from all directions
4. Clockers : when the kid on the bike goes down the path listening to some awesome rap music - the majority of the film fails to utilise the surround sound to best effect, but that subwoofer suddenly kicks into life and nearly wrecks the front room
5. Gladiator : good dts workout, especially in the scene where Crowe comes face to face with a load of mean looking tigers in the arena - the whole film is a great workout for a 5.1 system
6. Apolocalypse Now - those helicopters, man....
Plus all of the above postings - you`ll never be spoilt for choice as far as good quality demo material goes

Have to add to the above with a strange choice, but stick in Battle Royale, its DTS and the extra wall shaking from the uzi is risicolous with a sub, def a test for the .1.
Another slightly different choice is moments in Toy story 2 and 1 I suppose.
This is definitely what dvd is all about.
