Extras..........
Is this all people go on about?, did they really matter that much when you was buying good old VHS tapes and they didn`t have any?, i don`t think so.......

Most extras what you get on the discs are rubbish anyway....

You know the DVDs what come with an extra disc full of extras and sometimes they charge more because of it, it`s rubbish, it`s just another way for the big companies to get your money off you.....

I thought DVDs could hold up to 8 hours.......if this is the case why dont they put all the extras on one disc?....

I`d have to agree with dolby freak. Some of the stuff they chuck onto disks just so they can sell them as a two disk set or re-release them as a :SE or :LE or directors cut is just utter crap. In my opinion the only good extras are deleted scenes and possibly audio commentary (at a push).

there also a hell of a lot cheaper or/and become cheaper alot quicker. I buy the dvd for the film and would rather double my film collection and have fewer extras then have disks with extras that haven`t been watch!

How fast do you want DVD to come out, before the producers have written the movie scripts???

Too True, how many people watch the extras just once and don`t bother again? Infcat how many people watch all the extras full stop?

The first few DVDs I bought I did watch the extras, but it soon wore thin, I`m not really interested in "the making of....", they aren`t that good.

I would rather pay £5 less and have no extras.

I agree that many of the two disc sets have no reason to be spread out over two discs. However, on single discs you aren`t usually paying extra for the extras! eg: Untouchables, no extras. Taxi Driver, Alien, etc, etc, loads of stuff, same price. I do find watching deleted scenes in isolation a bit odd (spy who shagged me is an exception, but they are more like sketches really), but you can`t whack a good in-depth `making of`, such as the aforementioned Taxi Driver, Scarface, Thing etc etc.These retrospective interviews with those concerned are much more watchable than those done during filming where the actors basically tell us the plot and who their character is (I know all this, I`ve just watched the freakin film!) So if it`s not costing me any more, then bung those extras on and I`ll watch them if I want to, just don`t insult our intelligence!

Depends how well the making off is done. I realise what you are saying that some are just the actors going on about how good the film is but these are not making off`s, these are in fact promotional (hope I spelled that right) features that they show on TV sometimes (mainly in the US) However there have been some good making off`s. For example the first 16 Bond films had great making off`s, Star Wars one: TPM great one hour long one, The Godfarther boxset had a really interesting one. Some extras are crap but when they are done right they are very good. The best extras in my mind are the ones which involve the directors. (The simpsons anyone?)

In my limited experience only Shrek & The Matrix had any worthwhile extras.

My Wife was gutted that there were no extras on the Chorlton & the Wheelies DVD

What, not even a "Making Of" ? These stars can be so arrogant....

To all extent and purposes I agree with dolbyfreak - we do seem to be paying above the odds for, what in some cases, is fairly superfluous material.

Warner have proved you can sell "film only" titles for £9.99 (and a lot less these days) and this, in my opinion, is a good price.

Having said that, some extras are worth the admission money alone : the extras on the R4 Moulin Rouge, for instance, are second to none that I`ve come across.

Truthfully, though, I`d rather have the option of a dts soundtrack and no extras.

Superbit DVDs go some way towards it (improved picture and sound) but still insist on being £20 a throw.

DTS is present on very few DVDs, is there an actual good reason for this?, if most DVD films can contain a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix why not DTS too?.

Even with a lot of extras i still think we are being ripped off having to pay £20 on average for a DVD.

Hannibal is a good example of a rubbish two disc DVD, the second disc contains extras of very poor quality, off the top of my head i think it contains twenty tv spots which are about 10 seconds long each, can anyone tell me the exact point in this, and who is going to sit through them all?.
