Sky HD Price Drop

Mister Smee (Elite) posted this on Friday, 20th June 2008, 11:17

From homecinemachoice.com:

Sky has announced today that it`s reducing the price of its HD box - and renaming it at the same time.

From July 1st, the new `Sky+ HD` receiver will retail for £150 - a reduction of nearly £100 on the current price - provided the new or existing Sky subscriber buying it agrees to pay £10 a month for a new `HD Mix` channel package.

This brings the Sky HD box down to the same up-front price as a standard def Sky+ box - though you can get a Sky+ box for as little as £75 if you also sign up for other Sky services such as Sky Talk and Sky Broadband.

I read about that yesterday, but couldn`t see what they were going to offer a better deal for existing customers on the standard Sky+. Any ideas?

My mate called to get HD installed yesterday.
They advised him to call back 1/7, when the £150 offer starts.
Fair enough, decent of the person to tell him.

hmmm - interesting. So in the long run the new price is £270 as you still need to subscribe for a minimum of 12 months, I believe. I think they`d be better of keeping the price of the box around the same (or say maybe £200) and waver the £10 extra a month subscribtion if you have at least 2 premium channels (like they did with Sky Plus).

I got my Sky HD box brand new off eBay just before Christmas (£165). I already have the full Sky package and another £10 on top of that for a few HD channels just isn`t worth it (yet, anyway...). Still, I do find myself watching programmes I normally wouldn`t because they`re on Ch4HD or BBCHD, lol.

I bought my HD box for £199 andplugged it in myself
Piece of p***, if you already have SKY+
I didn`t have to subscribe to HD channels, I could have just enjoyed the better SD pictures through the HDMI and the greater recording capacity of the HD box.
I wanted HD though, so I phoned them up and got it switched on.
I had problems with that box though (noisy), which meant I should have gone back to the shop I bought it from.
I played dumb and phoned SKY though.
They`ve twice sent out new boxes without querying where the first one came from. :D

That will make things interesting for HD box shifters on Ebay.

Hi all

I have sky+ at the moment & am thinking about getting sky HD.
Do I need new cables installed or is it just a HD cable into my TV from the sky box.
Cheers
David

I think the box price is reasonable, but I still don`t think the £10 a month extra is fair. I already pay in excess of £60 a month to Sky so I`m reluctant to pay another tenner, no matter how much I`d like the service.

/\ Does your sig need to be so bloody excessive?
