I was in Brighton last week.
The prices they charge on that pier, I was tempted to torch the f***er, I tell you.

My Mrs and her workmates went to Weston yesterday for a laugh. They were on the pier messing around in go-carts. Glad it didn`t break out while she was there.

Am i the only one that sees this as a tragic loss of a piece of British History then. True im not some sort of pier loving weirdo, just feels like a loss is all.

I`m with kennedy316 on this one. We`ve got three of the buggers stuck to the left-hand edge of our town, and although the company that runs them hasn`t a clue about Heritage or History, the fact they`re still standing after a hundred and something years is something of an achievement.

Think about what a pier is - it`s a man-made structure sticking out into the sea, a deck standing on wooden or cast-iron pilings dug into the sand. Lashed by high seas in winter and scorched by sun in the summer. That`s got to take maintenance, and maintenance isn`t cheap. Think how much a tin of Cuprinol costs to do your garden fence and then multiply that by half-a-mile. Of course they have to make a cover charge to walk on it.

Maybe they should just give each visitor a small pot of varnish and a paint brush.

Leave the wood to rot, it`s not as if you can hurt yourself falling 15 feet into the sea.
That would also be more exciting than the ride Brighton pier charged me twelve effing quid to go on last week.
Twelve godalmighty quid for one poxy ride.
I was only £8 more to get into Thorpe park, and the rides are FOC after that!

I do like piers though, in principal. ;)

I`d agree with the loss of a part of the British seaside heritage.

Bouncing off the infrastructure underneath might hurt a bit, assuming the sea is not out at the time, or is shallow enough to allow for accidental tombstoning.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

When fishermen catch dolphin-friendly tuna, how do they know which tuna are being friendly to dolphins?

Theres nothing I like more than a seaside stroll down a pier wearing a kiss me quick hat and eating a huge novelty rock dummy before watching an hillarious show starring Little and Large, the Grumbleweeds or Joe Longthorne..... :/

Maybe the crispy remains will be a tourist attraction in itself like the one at Brighton :D
