How can I stop my smoke alarm going off at the slightest thing?

Bezzawezza (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 9th October 2008, 06:54

The smoke alarm in my house is uber sensitive. It wired into the mains of the house and situated in the hallway next to the kitchen and will go off at the slightest thing. Last night we had something in the oven and the Mrs went into the kitchen to check on it and the moment she opened the kitchen door (not the oven door) the smoke alarm went off. There wasn`t any smoke visible in the room whatsoever! If we had been cooking on the hob and the kitchen was really hot then I could understand it but for for it to be this sensitive seems ridiculous.
I`m tempted to just rip the thing off the wall or cover the sensors up with something but I want to have the security of it. I just don`t want it going off everytime we cook something.

I think you may have installed an ionisation smoke alarm and is common forit to trigger if near a kitchen, you should install an optical type mains alarm. makes a huge difference :)

Easy, contact your local Brigade, explain the situation and they will come and tell you where it should be installed. Either contact your local wholetime station or brigade HQ. Do not call 999.

Won`t cost you a penny.
