Just had my renewal quote and its nearly £500 for the year.
Seems a tad expensive to me.
Have a 3 bedded end of terrace with no frills policy - just the basic accidental cover etc. No extras like bike cover. No claims the last 5 years either
Is it as expensive as I think it is?

What was last years quote?
Go on the comparison websites and see if you can get a cheaper quote
Is that buildings and contents combined?
If not it sounds high to me but then I have no idea how much mine is...

RE: House insurance
Are you in a Union?.. see if they do insurance.
I get mine via my Union.. 3 bed mid terrace... Accidental, Witchcraft and Luddite cover... We had the drains redone a couple of years ago... £380ish all in...
Sounds very expensive, but then I guess it depends on the area. Ours has gone up and up and I suspect more increases are on the way thanks to the financial s*** storm. Gotta love recession: no one has any money and everything costs more...

Just renewed ours and managed to save £10 PCM. We have a 3 Bed semi and its costing us £23.07 pcm with Fortis now.
That`s for buildings and contents. Shop about a bit, we are lucky that we live in a nice erea though.

Good advice. £500 sounds OTT.
Sounds very expensive indeed. I have a 2 bed terrace with 50k of contents (OTT but it was the same price), accidental damage and 5k outside of house and pay half that price
To contextualise my earlier comments, ours is £30 odd per month (think it`s £36) for unlimited buildings/contents with Halifax. That`s for a three-bed semi in one of the less desirable parts of the city (relatively speaking). Working out the rebuild cost of the house and how much we needed for contents cover was a real headache, which is the main reason we stayed with them when they increased the premium last year. It`s just an unfortunate fact that it doesn`t matter if you`ve been claim free for years, insurance premiums always go up so it`s best to shop around. If more companies did unlimited cover, I certainly would.
