If there`s no criminal investigation into this it will be a travesty
However you look at it, this is a pretty sickening abuse of power:

I`m at work and can`t hear the audio to this? Have the police given him any kind of warning, or is he just randomly targeted?
Regardless, whether they`re concerned he`s got something in his pockets, they want him to move, whatever, there are many more ways to deal with him than using such heavy handed violence as this.
And these guys are employed to enforce the law...? Just yobs in uniforms (not all of them ;-) )

to me it looks like they`re trying to move him on
Lets put it this way if i knew i was in a potential riot zone i`d be trying to make the rozzers job as easy as possible not standing in their way....as it looks to me (well he doesnt look like he`s co-operating very much does he.)...as a matter of fact i wouldnt even be there in the first place.....

To be fair on the above, I went to Hyde park ad was havinga mooch about while my fella went to the doctor who exhibiton when it was on and ended up pertty much walking through what started as an anti war protest and then ended up being an anti western society protest before I realised what it was, sometimes you really do just end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I don`t think the police were right to bosh him out of the way like that, and woul;dn`t have been impressed if I`d got boshed in teh back of the legs with a nightstick and shoved over for just being at the wrong place, but can sort of understand where they were coming from. If you`re in that situation where its all hyped up, you`re expecting troubles and lets be honest not 100% sure if some numpty like terrorist is gonna pick that moment to blow someone or something up, then I suppose if they`d said something to him and he`d not heard/ignored the guy or whatever, then maybe you`d overreact at the time too.
Playing devils advocate realy, but thought someone ought to try to put both sides in?!?

I honestly can`t believe anyone could even attempt to defend the police`s action in this matter. It`s got f*** all to do with being in a stressful environment - unlike you or me, they`re supposed to be trained to deal with that. The bloke was walking away from them with his hands in his pockets. He posed no visible threat to them or anyone else. If you want to move someone on (ignoring the fact that he was walking away anyway) then you do it verbally, not by cracking them with a stick and pushing them to the floor with some degree of force. What was shown on that video was assault, plain and simple. You get w***ers in any sort of job, but unfortunately the police are in a position where they can and do abuse their powers. Regardless of what people might like to think, police assault does occur (and probably more often than you`d think). It just so happens that on this occasion the scum that did it was caught on camera, or it would have been just another unreported incident.
If that had been a member of the public assaulting another member of the public or, God forbid, a copper, they would have been arrested. Instead, the rest of them just stand around like a bunch of f***ing cowards. It doesn`t even matter if they suspected him of being involved in the protests, or even if he actually was, because at that moment in time he had done nothing to provoke an assault that very likely contributed to his death.
It`s very easy to say `i wouldnt even be there in the first place`, but put yourself in his shoes. If you were walking home and inadvertently entered an area where protests were occurring, how kindly would you take to some tosser whacking you with a stock and face-planting you? Probably feel a bit hard done by I reckon.

It`s bad enough the anarchists who started all this covering up their faces, but must the police officers hide their identity as well?
I suspect, however, the oficer in question will be quickly identified and hung out to dry by his superiors. Sweeping this under the carpet isn`t going to be an option, and the Commissioner of the Met and the Home Sec will want a body to show the public.
I think everybody expects too much of so-called "professionals" in times of stress. They`re no better equipped than the rest of us to deal with situations where their life and well-being are at risk. It`s happened all too often in the past and will continue to happen - just because they`re thirtysomething and have been a copper for so many years doesn`t mean it won`t "all end in tears before bedtime".
