Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
Customary followup after Max`s birth, a health Visitor shows up today, first thing she does is bellow "Shut Up!" at our cockatiels (who always start squalking when someone comes in the front door), and thrusts 2 things into my hand. The first was a NHS-issued pamphlet, the second is a sheet of paper, on which is the Following (not verbatin, but these are the main points)
Quote:
75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
Even mild dehydration will slow down one`s metabolism as much as 3%.
One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
Lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue.
Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking a healthy amount of water each day?
The second section;
Quote:
1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl . . . Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean.
4. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
5. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
6. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
7. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
8. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan;rap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
9. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, And run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
FYI:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It`s pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
2. To carry Coca Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Drink up! No joke. Think what coke and other soft drinks do to your teeth on a daily basis. A tooth will dissolve in a cup of coke in 24-48 hours.
If they sound familiar, they can both be found on Snopes here and here
Also, while I`d popped to the shops, she apparently measured the circumference of my child`s head, but as it didn`t match what had been measured at the hospital, she said to Annie "Oh, don;t worry, we`ll just put down what they said at the hospital"
Now, given the woman`s brash attitude, her unprofessional approach to her work, and the fact she`s handing out unsubstantiated, unsolicited and long-disproven paraphernalia which she`s apparently done herself, do I want this woman anywhere near my child again?
To end, here`s a gratuitous `AWWWWWWWWWWWWW` shot of Lukey holding Max

RE: Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
I would be taking that up with their department boss as well.
Personality conflict issues are something that should be noted (in jobs such as theirs) for their work assessment and progression. But dishing out s***e "information" like that deserves a severe repremand.
RE: Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
Initial phone call to her immediate boss stating she`s not coming back to your house and why.
Then in writing as far up the scale of responsibility as you can get.
Sh*t only goes downhill not up.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
RE: Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
As she was that concerned about dehydration, couldn`t you have chucked a bucket of water over her?
RE: Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
Brother had a health visitor just like her after the birth of their second child. Put it this way she didn`t get into the house again!

My wife has been a health visitor for nearly five years now, and sadly, she says, an unprofessional and uncaring attitude is not uncommon, but totally unacceptable.
However, saying that, this oversteps the mark by a very wide margin. You must report her immediately for a) the incident with the head circumference, and b) handing out homemade, unsubstantiated material, which is definitely not the policy of any NHS PCT.
You are also well within your rights to refuse her entry, and request that a different health visitor attend in future.
RE: Opinions required regarding a health visitor we had today
I can`t add anything to what`s already been said, but I wanna go "Aaaah" at that lovely photo of Luke and Max. You must be a very proud dad. Hope Annie`s ok now.
