Will the GameCube be able to play DVD movies?

No!.......not unless they bring out the special edition...Panasonic Gamecube which is available in Japan for a hefty price.

The GC uses special 3" discs , they undergo the same basic process as replicating a DVD but because they are smaller Nintendo gain 2 advantages , 1) They are harder to make pirate copies of as the moulds used by Nintendo to press these discs are not needed by any other factories
2) They don`t have to pay any DVD licencing fees (this is why the Xbox is not DVD playable out of the box , you need a seperate add on controller , so Microsoft could keep the price of the unit down - don`t believe any of that "we wanted it to be a games machine first" crap.

basically nintendo are bringing out a `games` machine (remember them?!) so thats what theyre concentrating on and thats what theyre best at.....

The smaller discs also have faster access times due to their wickedly wicked smallness. Or something.

I am thinking of getting one when it comes to UK, as I don`t like the X-box.

But I do really really like the Panasonic GameCube though! Do you guys think there is any chance it will be released over here in the UK?

Panasonic have said they have no plans whatsoever to release it in the uk!!
