lord of the rings...film vs book HOW MANY DIFFERENCES!?!?!?!

I know, time restraints....artistic licence....keeping the story moving etc but does anyone else fancy a bit of a bitch on this topic? Don`t get me wrong, I loved the film very much, & I`ll be waiting for the 3-disc director`s cut, but too much missed out or changed around. Why didn`t the bartender know Gandalf?, where was his (Gandalf`s) letter? Why so little of Gollum? Was it in Liv tyler`s contract that she got all that extra from nowhere?

The biggest change, and the most dissapointing for me wasat the ending of the movie.

Frodo is shown to tell Aragorn that he is leaving, and Aragorn duly goes along with this decision.
This is totally wrong!!!
In the book Frodo decides to go it alone, closely followed by Sam they go off in thier boat unnoticed.
After Boromir`s death, the Orcs run off with Pippin and Merry, leaving Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli perplexed to as to what happen to all 4 hobbits. it takes them a while to kinda figure out what has happened, and Aragorn and the other 2 are not Happy that Frodo is going to attempt the Perilous journey with Sam as his only companion.
This change has serious reprecusions on the motivations of the characters.

Other than that the main changes are giving Arwen a more prominant role, ommiting the whole Tom Bombadill and Barowrights episode, and tottaly f**king up Lothlorien and Galadriels character.

Deadly.

I`ve got to say that I was really disapointed with the film. I had just finished reading the book and the film just did`nt do it for me at all! I have to agree that the whole lothlorien scene really was poor. I just hope the dvd version with the extra half hour makes up for it!!

That wasn`t my point mate, deadly has it spot on, I was only wondering what others thought about the DAMN LIBERTIES that have been taken with the story.
