Daughter finally finished her last A level exam (of 9).
Roll on 16th August!...

So the waiting's over (phew!!) and feel very proud.
She got 3 A*'s (maths, chemistry and biology) and is off to do Medicine at Bristol Uni.

Medicine doesn't necessarily mean Doctor.
What's her aims for a career?

What else can Medicine mean snaps (unless there's a change of heart/plan)?

Alfie, I just read Adam Kay's book (wasn't familiar with the name tbh) and I have no clue why anybody would put themselves through what junior doctors put themselves (and their families/partners) through.
From one line to the next it's hilarious and then heartbreaking. A book everyone should read - This Is Going To Hurt.
It's not one I think I'll recommend to the daughter though... :(

Haven't read it but it's on my list...

Did hear some of his stories on Richard Herring's podcast.

Notable was story of 19yr old lad (possibly celebrating his A levels) who stood on and crashed through a glass bus stop and basically had his penis irreparably torn to shreds. Life ruined. (may have got details a bit wrong - sure it's in book).

I am certainly not cut out to be a doctor, let alone work in A+E. And I've spent a lot of time in hospitals over last couple of years for family members.

It definitely is a noble profession if you can hack it!. It's thanks to an exceptional (and incredibly positive and friendly) heart consultant that my mum is still alive when it looked very bleak.

Not sure about any of them - I thought they had their own degrees/training and if you went into one of them from medicine you'd had a change of heart.
i.e. if they were what you wanted you would train specifically in those fields.
