Lucky punches - what`s the theory behind it as far as strength?

PhilPhrenzy (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 9th August 2005, 13:13

Hi,

This one`s more FAO RJS, but someone else may know... Just wondering, how does the strength calculations work for "lucky punches" e.g. punches that do more damage than your grem`s strength?

Just had a fight earlier, and landed a punch worth 509 damage - a bit annoying as my grem had 351 strength and I chose Conserve Energy so my grem would go easy on my opponent... Dumb thing never does what it`s told (my grem, not the opponent). :P

Phil.

Yep, I had a similar instance today too, but it worked against me. Not particularly bothered though, as it`s nice to see that sometimes you`ve got a shot even if you`re technically inferior.

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

If you are stronger than your opponent you do extra damage, which is stupid.

Rather than just say "it`s stupid", why not elaborate on why you think it`s stupid. It seems perfectly reasonable to me, and I think that`s because strength is a pretty important factor in a fight. That and a horseshoe in your glove. 8)

..... as long as the horseshoe is no longer attached to the foot of the horse ;)

...Unless this horse had some sort of martial arts skills, and could do more damage than the gremlin itself... Your opponent won`t be in a stable condition then... :P

(god, that was aw-foal)...

Phil.

Just how exactly is that stupid?

If a heavyweight boxer punched a guy who weighs 115 pounds, he`d knock him into next week with just one punch.

Yes strength is important BUT

It isn`t an opponents own strnegth that dictates the effect of a punch on them, it is their Stamina.

To add extra damage for higher strength is therefore STUPID.

Damage should be determined on the punchers strength alone, not fudged to help the stronger grems.

Rules should be

Damage relates DIRECTLY TO STRENGTH
Hit probability relates to DIFFERENCE IN DEXTERITY
Points based on rounds won & damage done BUT a loser can`t get more points than a winner in a fight.

It`s currently stupid that points are dished out on the amount of damage done when that damage is calculated using difference in strength of the fighters, and that the Conans are guaranteed to hit at least 3 times a fight.

Lets see rules that balance out between the 3 attributes rather than putting one over another.

i think you shud get experience based on how much u take off ur opponents stamina instead of how many rounds u win
