RE: Top 5 a bunch of whimps

Nice to see such a topic still exists. lol

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

RE: lional32

It comes from a conversation many years ago between myself and a friend who is infamous for coming out with some really strange statements at inappropriate moments (another being "Who got shot here?" while discussing the Kegworth air crash on the M1) and generally making no sense.

On this particular occasion we were talking about childhood games (specifically "bulldog") and he piped up with "It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string." Which was met with a stunned silence and then a typical round of laughter at his expense. What he`d meant to say was "They`re still conkers even when you`ve got no string." Meaning that the game is the title of the item, even though you can`t play the game if you don`t have string.

Well, we assume that`s it, anyway... :D

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string. Really it is.

Because when someone challenges me I challenge them back. It`s courtesy, see?

RE: lional32

Has it occurred to you that since your gremlin is three times as strong as his, with three times the stamina, and twice the dexterity that he simply thought it might be better to handle challenges from similarly ranked gremlins and earn himself more than just three points, as was fairly inevitable?

I think you need to ask yourself what you were doing challenging such a weak gremlin before you complain about the refusal fella. ;)

Solution To Perfect "New Type" Gremlin Revealed!!!

Actually no...

I just wondered who out of the many who once seemed to post regularly are still here. Now seems like a good time to do a role call...

RE: Lucky punches - what`s the theory behind it as far as strength?

Rather than just say "it`s stupid", why not elaborate on why you think it`s stupid. It seems perfectly reasonable to me, and I think that`s because strength is a pretty important factor in a fight. That and a horseshoe in your glove. 8)

RE: Lucky punches - what`s the theory behind it as far as strength?

Yep, I had a similar instance today too, but it worked against me. Not particularly bothered though, as it`s nice to see that sometimes you`ve got a shot even if you`re technically inferior.

RE: Murfitt terminated

I have to say, without sounding all brown-nosed, that these changes are what this game needed. I think about 20 people migrated here from SLH, and frankly I reckon you could count those still interested on one hand. I`d like to see them come back, along with others, to play this game without the silly guarantees it once had.

This is a fun little daily distraction and I totally approve of changing the rules intermittently to effect different strategies and gameplans. There is no "perfect" system, and I hope it keeps getting tweeked. It keeps things fresh.

And as for those of you moaning about the timing of the rules changes: get used to it. Use the gremlin you have now to work out what you need to do to be the best, don`t just bitch like a 7 year old and threaten to quit. Unless you really are a loser, that is.

RE: What`s with the

Here`s the actual quote:
That`s the way I work, which is why no gremlins owned by Sandy Dawg, Jan Koldman or hoochicoochi will ever be challended by any of my gremlins.

I`d much rather be battered to a pulp by someone I know will accept my challenges than waste them on someone who has refused in the past.
It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

RE: What`s with the

Then stop complaining when people refuse your challenges. Still, it`s nice to see someone with standards so high they`re prepared to double them.

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

RE: What`s with the

I thought it might be just a case of sour grapes. Looks like I was right.

In fact I`m pretty sure you openly criticized me for refusing a challenge from one of your gremlins quite early on in my playing here. The reason I refused was because your gremlin was considerably stronger and fitter than mine. Interesting, eh?

If you don`t like the game engine, don`t punish other users for it. If you haven`t got the honour to issue a challenge to someone issuing one to you (where you`re ranked higher ESPECIALLY) then I think this is not the game for you.

Bad sportsmanship. You`ll get nowt more from me.

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

RE: Accidentally refused!!!

All I can say is a big "Thanks" for the challenges you`ve made to me. I was beginning to think that my gremlin was simply too hot for everyone ranked around me to handle! 8)

It`s all conkers if you`ve got no string.

What`s with the "Fear of strength"?

I`m on about my 6th or 7th Gremlin, and on each one I`ve tried to do something different. The most successful one is where you just sacrifice strength for immense stamina and decterity, and then just sit out 20 rounds time after time after time. Dull, but an easy way to the top of the ladder.

So with the last two gremlins I`ve tried going with a "big hitter" approach, one time sacrificing stamina, and this time sacrificing dexterity. It seemed like it might be an interesting experiment.

And you know what? It is. Because each day I`ve logged on I`ve seen all of my challenges accepted, but only one or two graciously returned. It seems the gremlins (all ranked higher than I) of those with a "superstamina" plan don`t want to challenge a strong gremlin because they won`t be guaranteed 30+ points each round.

Am I guessing right on this philosophy? People with Gremlins of a strength less than 1% of their stamina simply don`t have the good grace to return a challenge?
