To owners of Samsung 511, 611, 811; Thomson DTH-4200; and Hitachi DVP-305e - a request for firmware
As you may be aware, some versions of the x11 firmware (as used on the Samsung 511 through 811 and its clones, such as the Hitachi DVP-305e and Thomson DTH-4200), do not allow the "handset hack" to work.
If you own one of these players and it *does* allow the hack, would you be willing to remove the firmware EPROM and send it to me, so I can read its contents?
Once I`ve done so, it will be possible to write new EPROMs so currently hack-less Sammy and Hitch owners can upgrade their players. It`ll also be made available for anyone to download and burn their own EPROM if they so wish.
I`ll mail you a SAE and anti-static packaging so you can send me the EPROM safely, and will return the EPROM to you within three days at the most. I can also lend you a usable EPROM to be going on with in the meantime, if you don`t want to be without the use of your player for a couple of days.
Even if you don`t want to send your EPROM off to a strange individual, just knowing the firmware version number (e.g. 4.01, 4.02, 4.05, 4.05b etc.) printed on the EPROM would help.
Thanks in advance to anyone able to assist :-)

RE: To owners of Samsung 511, 611, 811; Thomson DTH-4200; and Hitachi DVP-305e - a request
A belated update on this issue - I`ve learned that the European 511 firmware version 4.05 is compatible with this hack. (Thanks to S.G. for the info!)
I`m still no closer to obtaining this or any other hackable firmware version for the x11 players (and clones), though, so if you own a hackable player *please* would you consider lending me your firmware so I can copy it and put it up for download? It is Christmas after all ;-)
Thanks (and Merry Christmas!)

I would think it is less hassle for most people to simply fit a modchip(from us for only £20 ) I have a dump from either a sammy 511 or hit 305 .. dont know what version it was or whether it was hackable but you are more than welcome to a copy of it. Mail me if you want.

Steve, modchip requires soldering. Most of people will just damage their pleyers with it...

Many people have at least one friend capable of doing the mod for them .... I may decide to try and address the soldering issue in the future ..... there may be alternatives for some players ...

Thanks Kassapa. It would be helpful to know the version.
As it happens, I`ve had an offer of help, from the kind Mr. Waghorn, so it looks like I`ll be able to source a hackable firmware after all :-)
Merry Christmas everyone!

And I am ready to pay... m-m-m... may be £25 (plus delivery) for hackable firmware chip (by a credit card or bank money transfer). If someone can send it to me, of course. Mike G, what do you think about it? ;-)
