Hack Help Forum
Can you advise me if the Philips DVD 701 can be hacked for region 1 & 2? Would you be kind enough to let me know how this is done? I live in Gibraltar (southern europe) and have a Philips DVD 701 but it only works on region 2 discs. By the way i only have the original remote that came with the unit, though i can borrow some of the Philips universal remotes, if these will work of course.
Thanks
Vince

hi there......if you need any further info...visit my web site.....

I take it you already know that you can buy Region 1 DVDs from few of the shops on the main street?........
i found them a bit more expensive than the internet sites.....but when you can go into the stores and buy them off the shelf....it makes up for the price difference!......
HaGGiS!
Sorry Dinger i must be thick! The only remote i have is the one that came with the unit. I can borrow though some of the universal remotes by Philips. Will these work? If so what codes do i put in?
Vince
Sorry Allan i only have the original remote that came with the unit I`ll have to get a OneForAll remote. What`s this RC6 code?
Vince
No your not thick, we have all been there, ie.new boys on the block.
As I said before you will find all in the Info: Multi Region Hacks section at this web site, or you can use Allan Verty site as he suggests. Simply if you use your Philips DVD remote, you can change the DVD Region setting eg. 2 to 1, but you can only chance back approx. 25 times before the DVD locks up and then your in the s***. However, if the buy , borrow or steal a One for All universal remote with DVD programming you can use a special code which make the DVD Region universal. You only need to do it once and that it for life, the DVD will auto play any DVD.
The down side is that you will have to purchase the One for All and they range in price from £20 upwards. If your from the UK get back to be and I`ll give you some tips on wherr to buy.
Grateful for all the help, thanks!
Does it have to be a six way remote? If so where can you get them from?
No, there are a large range of One for All remotes, provided it can programme DVDs, the cheaper ones don`t. I have a One for All 4 + Digital (Mod No. URC-7541). Tis remote is available from `Index` and approx £10 cheaper than the O f A 6, on the High Street. DVD programming is exactly the same
