3.4C FIRMWARE REMOVES THE REGION AND MACROVISION HACKS!!!! UNTIL WE FIND AWAY AROUND THIS, LEAVE YOUR PLAYER ALONE.

IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC REASONS FOR UPGRADING, USE THE ENCORE OR AFREEY FIRMWARES.

Why not just use the old firmware and get the menu back.

Spot on - I think the Area450 Forum/Sampo Phorum position (which McHale is actively involved in) advocates not upgrading yet.

There are people attempting to debug the firmware, but it seems Sampo have put up the shutters as far as this release goes. Sadly, this will affect a lot of our US friends, but Encore/Afreey owners should be safe for the time being.

The firmware upgrade Sampo have released must have some other benefits, aside from reinstating Macrovision and preventing multiregion playback ? Or has it ?

It seems people who`ve been sending their players back to Sampo US have been getting the new firmware 3.4c whether they want it or not !

You may want to go to Area 450 (http://www.area450.co.uk) where you can download European firmware. There is also a link through to Teddystacker`s excellent FTP where he`s got every Encore/Afreey/Sampo firmware available for download - a brilliant resource.

It`s in the Hacks section of Area 450 under `Firmware Downloads`

I am in USA. As I understud the last firmware you still can hack is 3.3c
Is it correct?
What about 3.4b is it still good for 620 to have all functions?
may be better to use europian 3.3d?

Also Sampo do not offer a progressive scan so may be you know player with pal-ntsc and ntsc-pal for all dvd regions.
