TV Compatibility with Region 1 disks

janine (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 20th October 2000, 12:43

I`m a complete novice at this so would greatly appreciate some help and advice.

I`ve purchased a Wharfedale 750s from Tesco which I want to be able to play Region 1 DVDs on as I`m off to USA in a couple of weeks and would like to stock up. I have a nine year old Sharp TV and after reading some comments in mags I`m concerned that this might not be able to support the NTSC format that region 1 is stored in. Am I right to be concerned or have I got the wrong end of the stick with this?

Shouldn`t be a problem because your player should be able to convert the US NTSC type picture to a good old European PAL job (i.e. normal pircture on telly !) As the Wharfey is multi-region I can`t for a minute believe it hasn`t got an NSTC/PAL converter - I think it`s standard hardware unless I`m completely off the beaten track. Incidentally, if you`re going to the States are you taking orders...? Could do a roaring trade !
