Hi Dave,
I have the same problem as I have a THOMSON DTH4000 DVD and as it is a clone of Samsung 511.
I asked to Thomson Support Center in Italy if CD-R & CD-RW (needed to create an home made VCD) are supported bye the DVD.
Unfortunately the answer was not!

Some people who I have already talked told me the problem is (probably...) due to the ray laser (there is only one), but I am not agree.
I believe your DVD and mine could read such home made VCD, there is such software limitation to respect the international law that prohibit to copy CD.

At moment I am looking someone who knows how to hack the sw of the DVD.
I suppose is the last chance!

Let me know if you ear some rumor about.

Bye, bye.

Vittorio

No, thats not true. Its the design of the laser that prevents the CDR and CDRW media from being read. ALL DVD Players can playback Video CDs.

Steve.

Hi Steve,
thanks for your contribution.
I started 1 week ago looking for an help to allow my Thomson DTH4000 reading CD-R support but I realize there is no way.

Right now, does it exist such an hardware kit to upgrade the laser?

I see a lot of people having the same problem. Most of us want to revers Video8 or VHS support private tape to VCD support.
That was my intention when I bought the DVD.
At moment I am completely disappointed. A lot of friend of mine have DVD with the same cost (i.e. ROADSTAR, DAEWOO) but with the functionality I need.
This is not a good publicity for THOMSON Company.
I should suggest to Thomson ( or Samsung whatever) to promote a sort of campaign allowing to move to the right DVD model.

Is it a dream??

Bye, bye.
Vittorio
