Need advice on replacing a Dansai DVD852

winactive_uk (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 4th July 2002, 10:27

My 6 month old Dansai DVD852 had developed a fault and had to be replaced, unfortunately Tesco could not source a local replacement and offered a refund. They have the DVD1010 in stock but this does not `cut the mustard` according to reports!

I loved the 852 and would like to replace it, anyone know where they are in stock? (Apparently only Tesco sells them, but the player is not listed on their website anymore.)

If this is not possible I am considering alternatives. Anyone have any opinions on

Mico A980S
Goodmans GDVD 124

or any other player which MUST have VCD/SVCD/Mp3/CD-R/CD-RW/Region Free including RCE/Macro Disable (DVD-R/DVD-RW may be nice for future) i.e. as good as the Dansai or better :)

(Sorry about the edit, freeserve cut-off was up!)

Thanks

W

Okay, hoping you are all at work and will reply this evening! :)

I have been scouring the forum and found that the Dansai has clones;

Decca DVD2110
Technica DVD-212

and that the

X-Wave 1100
Mico Classica 20 (is this the A980S or what?)

are also very good. Looks are important and I can say I`ve ruled out the Yelo 8000 and the Kiiro 838d

Anyone know where any of the above have pictures or are in stock?

(Still considering the two machines from the first post.)

Thanks

W

The Decca player (from Powerhouse), which is a Dansai clone, has been replaced by the Tatung DVD511. It is, to all extents and purposes, the same machine.

Cheers. Any idea where I might be able to get hold of one of these? (The Powerhouse website does not have it listed.)

Thanks

W

I`ve e-mailed Tatung UK for a list of resellers.

You can see the player here. (at least I assume this is the one as it is the only one listed!) Obviously they are not wanting to advertise the fact that it can be made region free or de-macrovision? :)

My local Powerhouse store had the Tatung in - £119.00. Macro/Region disabling was exactly the same as old Decca machine.

In the past my local Powerhouse has reserved items for me if they are waiting for more stock to come in & called me on their arrival.

Good Luck

Si

PS My local store are Derby (either Kingsway or Meteor Centre)

Thanks Si.

I have looked up the Derby store numbers, I may call them as I am in the Derby area in a fortnight.

Meanwhile, anyone have any thoughts on the Mustek DVD-V562?
