Looking to buy DVD cinema System/kit up to £500 can anyone help
I`ve been looking into buying a dvd system and have noticed that most of the all in one systems don`t have RGB outputs. So I`ve started looking at seperates but most amps seem to be HUGE. The only amps I have seen which are a little smaller in size have been the Pioneer set which compises the VSXC100S amp, dv444 player and sv-50 speakers. This is around £600 pounds in Dixons, (I don` t know the name of this set but has anyone seen this cheaper?). The other I have looked at is the Sony htk 170 amp which comes with speakers and is around £200-£300. The players I have loooked at are the Pioneer dv444 & Toshiba sd200e which I think would go ok with the Sony system. If anyone has got any great solutions for me I would be thankful. I also went to Richer Sounds and the manager said it would have to be a large amp or something like the Limit PB583 which I think looks horrid and isn`t a system I have seen reviewed. So in summary I`m after the best cinema surround that I can get for up to £500 that has RGB output and isn`t too bulky or ugly.

Your main problem with seperates is that most amps are fairly bulky just been having a quick look about you could go for.

I wouldn`t go for the Sony HTK170 as its` not DTS. The Sony HTK215 is the next model up, it is DTS (contray to popular rumours) and its nice and compact. You can stand it on its` side as well. Thats the only way mine would fit in the TV cabinet. There is also a new model the Sony htk25 which has similar dimensions to the 215 but has a greater ouput (watts). Both are the same price (£266) at

For more details about either check out the Sony website.
A player which has been getting excellent reviews is the Toshiba 220 (£144 multiregion from Richer Sounds). Might be worth considering. Total cost ITRO £450 with a decent Scart lead and Toslink cable. Then all you will need is Saving Private Ryan (R1 DTS) awesome.

I have just bought the Thomson Scenium DPL915VD Home cinema kit. It is a DVD player with inbuilt decoder/amplifier for Dolby Pro-Logic II, DTS, and Dolby Digital. It also comes complete with the 5 satellite speakers and the subwoofer. I only bought it yesterday, and have spent the last few hours playing some of my favourite scenes just to hear how different they sound. (`Gladiator` on DTS is awesome!!). I cannot fault either the sound or picture quality of the kit. I purchased it at Comet`s for £399. As well as 3 separate phono inputs, it has SCART, Composite and S-VHS video outputs, as well as Digital Coax output and Digital Optical output for audio.
The only problem so far is that as it is a new model, I cannot find a region hack for it. I have a request already posted in the Hack Forum for this (but if anyone here can help.....)
So, apart from the fact that at the moment it is Region 2 only, I can highly recommend it.

I can recommend the Hitachi HTK 150, it can be picked up for £299 or less and has an easy multi region hack, comes in silver, is very slim and can output RGB.
