Worth ditching 444 + video for phillips DVDR880 ?
I`d love to clean up my AV stand by ditching the video, but I do still use it.
I was considering SKY+ but it`s stupid money.( £300 + £10 a month ? Yeah ok SKY......what kind of mugs do you think we are ? )
Anyway. The Phillips DVDR880 has caught my eye. Is it a good DVD player in it`s own right ? I have a 444 at the moment which I love to bits. I believe the 880 can be made multi-region quite easily, but I note that none of the literature I`ve seen for it mentions 5.1 or DTS.
I`d like to hook up surround to it, so if it doesn`t do 5.1 or DTS then I`ll forget the whole thing and keep the 444 + video.

I`d imagine it does have a DD 5.1 and DTS bitstream but not a built in decoder like your dv 444.

My 444 doesn`t have a built-in decoder
Does it ????

No it doesn`t

sorry I did`nt mean your dv444 had a built in decoder I meant it had bitstream out for DD 5.1 and DTS. And that`s why it`s like your dv444.
Sorry!

Having just bought a DVDR 880 I can highly recommend it. Plays DVDs superb and outputs 5.1 sound.
I`ve hooked my video up to and as long as the quality of the video is ok then the recording is excellent.
