RE: Philips DVDR880 and editing discs

Excellent...thanks very much for that !

Philips DVDR880 and editing discs

I have the Philips DVDR 880 machine. As u will be aware on this model u can insert markers (chapter marker) and make them hidden so that you can miss out the adverts etc. When u play back the disc the film or whatever plays and skips the adverts as if they were not there.
My question is this.... When playing the disc back on a normal DVD player the adverts are still visible. Is there anyway around this...do all DVD players ignore the hidden chapters.
What I want to do is record onto a rewritable disc....edit this so the adverts are hidden and then record from this disc onto a DVD+R disc.

Anyone any ideas or knowledge of this ?

RE: DVD-R, DVD+R

Panasonic recorders use the - format and Philips recorders use the + format. You can not use one with the other.
As far as I am aware the Philips + format is compatable with more DVD players.

RE: Philips DVDR880 cheap for a reason ???

DVD+R is the media that the Philips range of DVD recorders use and DVD-R is what the Panasonic range use. One will not work on the other.
It has to be said that that the DVD-R disc are currently cheaper to buy but recent months have seen a huge fall in the price of DVD+R discs so it wont be long before theres little difference between the two.
I bought a Philips 880 a few months ago and have been well pleased with it. I choose this one over the Panasonic as I had read that the DVD+R disc are compatable with more DVD players than the Panasonic, and the cost of the 880 DVDR was alot lower than the nearest Panasonic.

RE: Recording From PC to Philips DVDR 880

Where can I find the download for Firmware for the Philips DVDR880 ??

RE: Philips Remote Multi Region Hack

I have the Philips DVDR 880 and have used the hack found on this site. My machine is now region free and I`ve never had it lock up. I only had to do it once although I did have to buy a One4All6 remote to do it.

RE: Difference Between DVD-RW and DVD+RW?

Yeah..... DVD+RW is the Media that Philips DVD recorders use and DVD-RW is the media that the Panasonic DVD recorders use....Both different formats

RE: Phillips DVDR 880, your help needed please.

No u can only use the DVD+ media on this machine

As regards backs ups the only time I have managed it was by recording the film itself so it didnt include any extras

Which DVD Player for backing up DVD`s from DVDR880

I have a Philips DVDR 880 recorder and I wish to be able to back up my OWN DVD`s. What cheap DVD player will allow me to record my DVD`s using a scart lead without having to bother with filter leads etc.
I have tried doing this but recieve the "COPY PROTECT" message on the DVDR.
Does anyone have the DVDR880 and a compatable player they can recommend ??

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

Yep Scart from Video out to DVDR in works perfectly.... I`ve done a few and the quality is excellent as long as the video itself is good....If the tracking goes out whilst recording you can have one or two problems but 99% of the time its fine

RE: Phillips 880 DVD recorder Hack

I had problems hacking my DVDR880 until I bought the "One For All 6" remote control. Then it worked fine.
How are you trying to do it ??

RE: DVD+RW question

Good point but I`m sure I`ve managed it somehow !!
I have a DVD+RW disc which I have used several times and just recently recorded a film on it....Now I`m not sure what I`ve done exactly but now I`m unable to record on it at all. It doesnt let me into the menu or anything. Could I have "protected" it by accident and if so what do I do to get it back to rerecordable or is the disc knackered. ???

RE: DVD+RW question

You can finalise DVD+RW discs but u then cant erase them.
Your other method is much better.
For example I am recording the current series of League of Gentlemen onto a DVD+RW disc.... When I have all six I will then record from the DVD+RW disc onto a +R disc editing any adverts etc. I can then erase the DVD+RW disc and use it again.
I`m not sure but I don`t think that all DVD players will play a DVD+RW disc unless it has been finalised. I know my ex Wharfedale didnt like them but my Pioneer does.

RE: Discs to be used in DVD Recorders....

I would recommend buying the discs (DVD+R & DVD+RW) off the tinternet....You can pay 5 times as much in the shops !!! I dont know why but they are more expensive than the DVD-R discs

You can use the DVD+R disc in several sessions..Each time you record a programme it is shown in the menu as a Title which in turn is split into chapters (Approx 5 minutes apart). Once it is full then thats it. The only editing you can do is making certain chapters invisible which is great for cutting out all the adverts etc.
With DVD+RW you can use over and over again without any loss of quality. (unless you finalise the disc)

RE: Phillips DVDR 880 - Purchase Imminent!

Hope u have better luck than me....I bought the DVDR 880.....Excellent machine. The only thing I couldnt get it working with is my Wharfedale DVD player...
I tried the disc`s I`ve recorded on about 12 different machines and the Wharfedale and an old Proline where the only ones that could not read the discs

RE: macrovision and the dvdr880

Glad to hear u can back up your discs....I `ve tried about 20 discs and the only that I could back up was Black Hawk Down....all the others came up Copy Protected as soon as I hit the record button. I`ve tried using a Wharfedale M5 and a Pioneer 530.

RE: macrovision and the dvdr880

Is there any way around this problem ?

I have a DVDR880 and would also like to back up my DVD`s... Is it worthwhile buying another DVD player that would work with it or is the CGMS something inside the DVDR 880.
I`ve read one or two things re filter leads etc but would prefer to shell out on a DVD player that I could just hook up the recorder.

RE: LG 5095 a dud?

Apart from an LG DVD Player I have bought several LG appliances for around the house. All are excellent value for money, being well built and reliable.
Until a couple of years ago I`d never heard of them but will certainly buy their products in future !!

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

I bought my DVDR880 from http://www.be-direct.co.uk/ for £395.00 including free delivery.... very good service !!

RE: philips 880 copies won`t play

Is there a name for this type of lead.....or will the staff know what I`m on about.......Have u ever asked a question to some 17 yr old "sales assistant" only to be greeted with a blank expression !!

Cheers

RE: DVD+R`s +RW`s

Yes I`ve used the following firm last week and was impressed by the service

RE: philips 880 copies won`t play

And where would one purchase such a filter lead and what is it called ??
I too have the same problems when trying copy a disc. Although I managed to copy Black Hawk Down without any problems.

I would like to point out that I only would copy to make back ups. If anyone has kids I`m sure you will understand. I`ve found several DVD`s in the kids bedroom being used as coasters !!!!

RE: Worth ditching 444 + video for phillips DVDR880 ?

Having just bought a DVDR 880 I can highly recommend it. Plays DVDs superb and outputs 5.1 sound.
I`ve hooked my video up to and as long as the quality of the video is ok then the recording is excellent.

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

AArrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!

Still no joy. I`ve been out and bought the all for one6 remote control but still can`t get it to hack my DVDR880.
Followed what you said...magic button and then pressed 085 and nothing happened ! I started off by setting the remote to operate the DVD recorder using the code 0539.
Any ideas as to what I`m doing wrong ??
For example what screen should the DVDR be showing on the TV when I do this ? Do I need a disc in, should the tray be open or shut.
This is sending me around the twist !!!
**********FORGET THE ABOVE******************
I`ve done it.....tried it without a disc in and this time I saw the "dashes" on the DVDR display and not on the screen where I was looking !!
Whooppeeeeee!!!
All I need to find out now is how to copy from one DVD palyer to the recorder !!!

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

Many thanks Tony for clearing that up for me....I shall have to get a One for all remote and have a go !

RE: region hacks and burning dvds on philips 880

I seem to have the same as yourself Philips 880DVDR and a Wharfedale DVD player. I`ve tried using the standard remote to make it multi region but without success.
I cant my Wharfedale M5 player to play any of the discs I`ve recorded !!
How do you get around the copy protection when trying to record a pre-recorded DVD ???

Wanted: Wanted - Life Of Brian (Monty Pythons) DVD

I`m trying to buy Monty Pythons Life Of Brian on DVD...

Anyone got a region 2 copy they want to sell ????

Email me at bevets[at]moc.xepip.lsd

RE: Anyone bought the Philips DVDR880 Multi-region recently

I too have bought the DVDR 880 and well impressed I am.
However I`ve trawled the net looking for a hack to make it region free.
They all seem to be in fluent nerd speak.... what on earth does it mean in English.....do I need a special remote or can I use the remote that came with the machine.....

"infra-red code RC6 (aka Codeset 4, Key 235 in nerd-speak) to your player. You can do this with a OneForAll remote such as the OneForAll 6 (or URC7560) or OneForAll 4 Digital"

Can someone kindly explain what I have to do....I only have around 5 region 1 discs but I would still like to be able to watch them !!
