Page 1 of Dansai 955-Anything Known?

My local Tesco has just taken delivery of a few dozen Dansai 955 players. Looks like an upgrade of the 952 with a DD5.1 decoder built in. Anyone know anything about these such as a hack?

There are still loads of Dansai 1010s about which at £79.99 is not a bad player.

Hack :

Open Tray.
Setup Screen.
Scroll Right > to last menu.
press 3 four times.
Select 0.
press setup.

So how much is the 955 and whats it look like?

£99.99 and it looks like the 852 but without the right hand cluster if you know what I mean,

Does it play VCD? Multi-region? All Tescos or only some?

clayts, presuably that hack is to make it multi-region ?
Doyou know if there`s a hack to disable macrovision as well and can the 955 play VCD/SVCD discs or is there a hack to enable it to ?
There`s info in the forum to do the biz on the 1010 but I don`t know which is the `newer` model, the 955 or the 1010.
Can you help please cos I was going to get a 1010 but all of a sudden there`s loads of 955s in Tescos !

I`ve just got one of these to replace my dansai 852, fan bloody tastic, a big improvement! my 852 was very fussy about dvd-r media (never found one that worked properly) not this baby, plays them all!

You also get 3 free DVD`s (friends, perfect storm & space jam). Yes it does play vcd`s (no hack required), the tray is a lot smoother & the splash screen is a lot sharper and no more bloody "ding" when you eject/close.

I`ve only had it a day and haven`t tested that much but so far much better than the 852 (and I loved that machine).

Any sign of a macrovision off option with this machine?

If you would try this procedure for bringing up a hidden menu:

Using the remote press

Setup
Then each button of the last two rows of the remote starting from left to right on the row before the last.

Please report any observations.

I`ll give it a bash when I get home from work and report back this evening.
