Discs to be used in DVD Recorders....
I`m thinking of buying a Philips DVDR880 and was wondering what discs I would use. On the DVD RAM Drives you get for the PCs I know you can use DVDR and DVDRW.
With the Philips recorder can I use any blank DVDs or do I need to buy a special brand/type? How do the DVDR (write once) discs work? Do I just hit record on the recorder, but then am unable to write over what I have recorded? Is it possible to use the DVDR like a multi-session CDR and record 1 TV show a week until the disc is full or is that just on DVDRW?

RE: Discs to be used in DVD Recorders....
Philips recorders can only use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs (note the all important "+" symbol), not DVD-R.

RE: Discs to be used in DVD Recorders....
I would recommend buying the discs (DVD+R & DVD+RW) off the tinternet....You can pay 5 times as much in the shops !!! I dont know why but they are more expensive than the DVD-R discs
You can use the DVD+R disc in several sessions..Each time you record a programme it is shown in the menu as a Title which in turn is split into chapters (Approx 5 minutes apart). Once it is full then thats it. The only editing you can do is making certain chapters invisible which is great for cutting out all the adverts etc.
With DVD+RW you can use over and over again without any loss of quality. (unless you finalise the disc)

Thanks for both your help.
Where is the best place to buy the blank media? Whe buying CDRs I usually use
Valuemedia - http://www.valuemedia.co.uk/
or SVP - http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/
Both charge p&p. Are the prices these sites charge reasonable for DVD+R and DVD+RW?

CD Evolutions are doing a spindle of 10 DVD+R`s for £13.99. P+P is £1.66. Also DVD+R`s £2.50.
