Is a Dabs.com LG3350 multi region hackable.
Has anyone tried hacking a Region 2 only LG3350 bought from Dabs? I want to order one ASAP (If this wont work i`ll buy a Aiwa DV370 - have to live without the decoder) but really want multi-region capability. I`ve seen hardware mods for it at Techtronics etc but get the feeling your paying for something you shouldn`t have to. Thanks for any help you can offer on this one.
RE: Is a Dabs.com LG3350 multi region hackable.
I am waiting for one from dabs and found out tonight my order has been completed, to me that means its dispatched (could be wrong) so hopefully get it this week and will let you know soon as i receive it, i bloody hope so. ttfn.

IT Troll suggests it is using the details on his site at
members.tripod.co.uk/ittroll/hack.htm
I`ve tried it on mine from Dabs and the CODE symbol comes up but I don`t have any other region discs to try.
If it works please reply.

Hi how do you get to this site members.tripod.co.uk/ittroll/hack.htm
as I would like to buy one of the DABs LG3350 if it can do multiregional.
Also has anyone looked at the LG site, the software download area is blank. Does this mean that the player can not be upgraded?
Thanks MD

> Hi how do you get to this site
I`d prefer it if you used the front door :-)

The Dabs player is not sold as Multi-region but reports do seem to suggest that the hack will work on it. If you can get "COdE" to display then it has worked. However, I can`t guarantee that it will. You pays you money, etc. . .

It didn`t used to be. A couple of weeks a go it had a dozen or so firmware revisions (including one for the Aiwa!). I guess they got scared that people might mess-up their players. If you want to know how to upgrade the 3350 then I have the service manual on my website (glad I grabbed it before it was gone :-)

I have been led to believe that the remote hack for the 3350 does not require any tinkering with the innards for it to work. There have been other threads discussing this in the past and I am sure if you look you will find it. :) you shouldn`t have to download any software or anything to apply the hack, upgrading may be a different issue at a laer date. The URL below will take you troll`s excellent pages on the 3350, similarly Jimbo`s Aiwa pages aren`t too bad, the same hack applies, can`t remember the URL sorry.

RE: Is a Dabs.com LG3350 multi region hackable.
Hi people,
Well I was going to get an LG3200e from Techtronics....
Then I saw that the LG3350 and Awai 370s were modifiable out of the box; plus did mp3 - well I might use it one day.
Since I had a DD5.1 decoder already and I could only get an LG via internet order (dabs) I went for the Awai (Comet - £199 - not cheapest, but I walked out with it).
Anway, before I`d decided on this, I`d emailed dabs to enquire of the firmware.
A guy there replied that it went version 2 recently - and since then, they`d
been selling through v. quickly - there`s currently a wait for stock - he intimated that he knew exactly why I was asking!
So, there you go - ymmv - and the risk is yours.
BTW, with my Awai - I had to leave out the `enter` stage when setting the region - thanks to the person here who discovered that subtlety.
RGB out is very crisp - I`d been using svideo for dvds until now.
My TV accepts NTSC - so I`ve left the player as auto; region 1s are fine;
but has anyone experimented and compared the ntsc versus pal-conversion ? - What were your experiences - are the dropped frames worth getting the (I guess) better resolution (albeit interpolated) ?
I`m going to try it - but I just wondered if anyone knew already :)
`later
Jason.
