Why do expensive TVs only have 2 scart sockets?

wizzy (Competent) posted this on Friday, 28th March 2003, 10:54

I cannot understand why in this day and age some TVs costing anything up to £1000 only have 2 scart sockets.

I understood that as I have a Sky satellite box, video recorder and DVD player I ideally want 3 scart sockets (to avoid manual switching between units) - or am I missing something obvious here?

Is there a better way to connect these units to the TV?

I am sending my faulty Philips back (which has 3 scart sockets) and am looking for a reliable replacement and the majority of sets have only 2 scart sockets.

Get the 28" JVC R25. It has 3 scarts + s-video- no connection headaches. I paid 470 quid for mine and it`s a fantastic set.

Thanks acmoore

The JVC is certainly one to consider. I believe the picture quality is excellent but do you find the 50hz refresh rate OK? No noticeable flicker?

i could really do with 2 RGB compliant SCARTS. Sadly, I couldn`t find a set with more that 1, so i have to keep changing the cables over. grrr...

I`ve got a sw***y 32" JVC with 4 scarts (who`s counting?)... the picture refresh rate is absolutely fine: I`ve not noticed any flicker.

Didn`t realise "sw***y" was a rude word - I thought I was praising it. Does it do the same thing with Sc***horpe?

Yep! You`ll just have to say it in cockney - `lav a dack, people from Scanforpe are a roight banch o` fackin cants. As is Robert John Shepherd for not sor`in` is` swearin` fil`ah aaaaat.`

Sorry ;-)

Going back to the original topic, several Thomson and Sony widescreen models have 3 SCART sockets, two of which are RGB capable.
