A couple of questions...

Which would be better to use as front speakers (and with cd tracks):

Eltax Monitor 3 (90w)

or

Mission 700 (75w)

Both £60 at Richer Sounds

I would (probably) be using a Kenwood DD receiver (a basic one).

Secondly, I`ve just spotted in the Richer Sounds brochure-thing a `Moviemaxx Speaker Package` from Eltax for £120 - two floorstanding fronts, two rears and a centre. Would this be worth looking into, or would the sound be poor compared to the above speakers (for £60 per pair)? I would, of course, have to invest in other speakers at a later date if I went for the former option.

If anybody has any experience/opinions on the above, and has managed to follow my ramblings, could you let me know please. I really don`t know what to do.

Cheers

Mark

the general consencious is to audition them your self but one bit of advice i can give is to make sure the centre speaker is in the same range as your left and rights otherwise you will get a tone difference when sounds travel across the screen.

I went for the eltax silverstone 3 pack for £99.00 quid over the missions but its down to individual taste.

Aiwa 370 ROCKS!!!!

Yammy A5 BOOMS !!!!

Cheers Shaun.

I`ll have to organise a test at Richer - only prob is that I don`t think the one in Sheffield has an A/V testing facility. Still, I guess I can always get an idea by hooking the speakers up to a CD Player.

Mark, the Eltax Moviemaxx is a dedicated set of speakers just for AV. I tried grilling Eltax about it (sent them a few e-mails) but they never really answered my questions (e.g. Q: what speakers make up the package ? A: It is a unique package).

I think either the Eltax speakers you mention or the Mission`s will do the job with music as well as AV - bear in mind, however, that the AV amp you`re buying (bargain price, by the way - well done on a good find) may not be so hot with music. £60 for either of those sets is well worth the moolah in my opinion.

As you say, worth arranging a demo - take CDs that YOU`LL play to help you reach your decision.

Cheers.

I`ll avoid the Moviemaxx then.

One more thing - would it sensible to buy a centre at the same time to make sure that they have the same tone / are okay together? I`ll speak to Richer obviously, but just wondered if anybody has any opinions.

Yup, Mark.

General consensus is buy a centre speaker that tonally matches the front two (doesn`t matter so much with rears, cos they`re really effects only).

Really you`re looking at the Eltax Libery Centre or the Mish 70c1, both at 100 notes from Richer.

Don`t worry too much about the subwoofer if your wallet isn`t expandable : the Kenwood should enable you to redirect the bass effects to the front left and right speakers.

Happy demo-ing
