looking for a new dvd player to replace Dansai 952

Navs (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 22nd May 2003, 09:37

Hi all
I currently own two dvd players:
1. LG 3350
2. Dansai 952

The LG I personally think is far far superior out of the two and is great for playing dvd backups. However I find that with the dansai 952- the picture quality is poor as there is a lot of pixelation. Also- backups start to skip or freeze halfway through the movie whereas this doesn`t happen with the LG. Can someone reccommend a sub £70ish dvd player that will atleast won`t cause the skipping and the freezing with backup dvd`s. Preferabally a player that is of the same sort of standard as the LG3350. (review can be found at homecinemachoice.co.uk)
Thanks in advance.
Have a good one all

I dont know about the pacific- I will check this out.
However- I am now keeping away from any Dansai dvd player simply because it can`t handle dvd-r`s and the fact it produces a poor picture.

Examples I found in the 952 of poor picture quality are high levels of pixellation in scenes of the movie when it is dark or when there is fog or someone holding a candle. More specific examples are: The beginning of Harry Potter and the Philosppher`s Stone- a lot of pixelation with the fog and street lamps. Superman the movie in the opening credits and when he is seen flying with the two towers behind him- to name a couple.

If the pacific measures up then that will be the player to replace the 952.

I`ve heard great things about the Wharfedale M3- but I don`t know where I can get this from. Anyone know?

Thanks

Trust me on this the Pacific does NOT play DVD-R / DVD+R because i`ve tried it.

I shopped around for ages and ended up buying the JVC XV-N55SL and shes a beauty, plays the lot including DVD+/-R. Picture is superb sound is good and Macro are knocking them out at £99+VAT. Slightly more expensive but a superb machine.

See my "It does exactly what it says on the box" thread...

Enjoy

Rich :)

Re the Pacific 1002. Had a shufti at one of these in local Asda this eve. Agree with price i.e. 50 sovs or less, but couldn`t see anything bout 3 year warranty inc. Where did that info come from ?

asda offer a standard 3 yr warranty on tv,video and dvd players. if it breaks down within that period u are normally offered a refund or exchange.

If you are looking to improve on the Dansai for value thats difficult, but on quality its not.For better pictures you need to get out of the DANSAI/PACIFIC/PROLINE syndrome. These players offer great value, including NTSC-PAL 50 conversions, cinch region hacks, macro off etc,but to improve your picture you need to spend a little more money.Move to the next level with "Brand names".Pioneer,Panasonic, toshiba etc.All these offer excellent quality and you can`t beat Richer Sounds current offer of a multiregion Toshiba for £100.Its £30 extra cash well spent.
