I too had this problem and eventually it stopped playing discs altogether. I sent it back and was told it was unrepairable. I have since bought a panasonic E50

Whether or not the machine is unrepairable is irrelevant. Its under guarantee and your dealer will have to get it sorted. Its his problem, not yours.
When I first hacked mine it seemed very sensitive to wrong buttons being pushed.Did you use the "One for all" 6 and not a different remote.

I think there is a factory reset in one of the menus.Try that, then do the hack again.

Hi , thanks for the replies, The 880 now plays all disc i have tried except one, That one is DONNIE DARKO , i bought it from Tesco about 4 weeks ago but only got round to watching it last night, it failed to play and on closer inspection there were a few scratches on the disc so it was returned and exchanged for a brand new sealed undamaged copy, but alas this also fails to be recognised buy the player . The 880 doesnt seem to recognise the disc.it does try to read it but fails and display shows `NO DISC` , every other disc i have works fine , even the new ones i have never watched before., Please somebody tell me i am not insane, The only difference i can san see on the outer cover is that the donnie darko dvd have a macrovision symbol on the back, but i thought most discs had macro nowadays. anyone else had this problem and did you get it fixed.....

Glad the machine is working again, how did you get it going.Sadly, there will always be the odd disc that does not play on every machine.I have a couple that will not play on a Panasonic, but play ok on the Philips, and vice versa.I have 4 different players, each with its own unique facilities, and over a 5 year period, all of them have had problems with at least one disc, that then goes on to play on the others.Sometimes just because it will not play does not mean it won`t if you continue trying.Macrovision should have no bearing on playback.Note, the Philips hack will not work on Region 1 RCE discs.Does anyone have a way round it?

This is becoming a very common problem; it`s mentioned at least 4 times in this forum. On my 880, the `NO DISC` error would not go away no matter what I did, & the machine unded up being repaired by Philips.

Beware of this hack!!!

Hmmm. Not convinced that the hack is necessarily to blame. It seems to me to be that old chestnut about unreliability of some Philips DVD recorders. (This is not a snipe at Philips as I have an 890 myself and had no major problems). If you haven`t done so already, have a wander around www.dvdplusrw.org at the +RW recorders general discussion forum, you`ll find quite a few tales of woe there (as well as praise)

If the "NoDisc" message appears, unplug the mains for a few seconds and then power up and problem should be solved. If it comes up with the message when you have a shop disc in there,it may not work
