Help please, RGB Composite to scart connector??

brigand1138 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 30th June 2003, 18:19

I just today got a Sharp SD-AT50H Home Cinema system (half price at dixons). The dvd player doesn`t have a scart connector, it has a normal yellow video connector and thre composite connectors (1 for Red, 1 for Green and 1 for Blue).

What I want to know is, can I get a cable that will go from the three composite connectors on my dvd player to a scart socket on my tv. The system did not come with one unfortunately.

Cheers in advance

You mean component, rather than composite. (Composite is the yellow connector.)

Unfortunately, you can`t connect a component output directly to a RGB SCART socket - the two signal types are incompatible (they contain much the same information, just encoded in a different way). It`s possible to buy converters, but they ain`t cheap.

Moral of the story - check what sockets your desired equipment has before splashing out :-(

Price may or may not be an issue, you say it aint cheap, how uncheap is it, roughly?

I`m amazed that such a `budget` (no offence) system was designed without a scart connector and with a connection system more often found on higher-end systems/projectors.

You should still be able to connect the composite video (yellow video connector) to the TV scart via a phono to scart lead.

This may not have been deigned for the UK market.

Yes S would be your best bet.

Regarding the component to RGB converter: I think you`d be looking at around £150.

I bought a Sony DAVS 550 from Richer Sounds and it has exactly the same connections on the back. - No RGB Scart

At the moment i use the component to scart - i know its crap but i can live with it - my tv is a bit old so i `ll make sure my new one has suitable connections.
