LG3350E

Thanks for the replies to my recent thread Minato G1 or LG3350e, i decided to buy the LG3350E. I now need an AV receiver, are the sherwoods any good from richer sounds or can any one recommend any other budget receivers.
Another point to consider would be to replace my old amplifier as it is on its last legs, is there an amp you can buy which contains AV, or do you have to have two seperate items.

I have an LG3350 and find the signal to noise ratio bad. Given this, I would set up my system differently if starting again:

1) get a `digital` A/V amp (receiver) with dolby digital (or DTS) decoding onboard

2) get a DVD player without onboard DD decoding

3) feed the digital audio to the digital inputs on the amp.

Basically, it is `probably` difficult to keep the video signals from the analogue audio, well difficult for LG.

Moral: put the `decoder` money into the amp.

Home Cinema Choice`s testbed found the inherent s/n ratio to be -72.4dB, which is not too dusty.

Are you saying you`ve found a problem even if you don`t use the on-board decoder? Because I don`t (my Yamaha amp does it very nicely thank you) and haven`t found one...

No the noise is just on the analogue outputs. It would be very difficult to get noise onto the digital output, and if you did, it would probably stop working all together.

I am running a sherwood R525 from richersounds. A good box but it does not have a digital stereo input. That said it is cheap and does the job. Good sound and a range of input sources. I am running my Sat receiver, On Digital, record deck and (sorry) Minato Dvd through it without any probs.
