RE: 2 Bargains @ Play

Yes it did, and until I get chance to read it, a damn fine door stop it will make. 895 pages!

RE: 2 Bargains @ Play

The Depardieu COMC is only £8.99 at www.bensons-world.co.uk; but I fancy that cork screw!

RE: Moulin Rouge Region One has a DTS track as well

Well, the R1 DTS track is the good news, the bad news is that some people are reporting lip-synch problems when playing DTS, the DD track being okay. The R4 appears to be free of these problems though.

RE: Robocop Digi-pack @ Play

Dvdboxoffice say they still have the Criterion in stock at £26.85 delivered if anyone`s interested.

RE: Two Star Trek Questions

Rumour is that all the other movies are going to be re-released in sequence as 2-disc LEs; it makes perfect sense from a commercial point of view. They`re hoping to grab you twice...

RE: french connection etc...

Doh! Quite right - Play`s price of £17.99 for the boxset is decent enough though for three disks. Ordered!

RE: french connection etc...

£15.99 at movietyme.com...nice!

All you want to know is here...

RE: wickerman

Play say that if you get stung by customs they will refund any tax you pay; can`t say fairer than that can they?

RE: New LG players

Should do because they have the newer verson of the ZiVA chip; I`d still look (hard) for an LG3350 which has all the facilities you want, plus that newer chip...all you want to know at:

RE: LG3200. Is there anything better?

Are Tesco still doing the LG3000E? Around the same money, but uses a better version of the chip in the 3200 (same chip as the 3350). Check out

RE: Wharefdale 750s soundtrack problems

Hmmm - I had the 750S and the DSP A1. Played DD fine, but the sound skipped relentlessly on all DTS soundtracks. I tried a further 5 (count `em) Wharfedale before both I and Tesco decided to call it a day. I now have an LG 3350E and no DTS problems.

A friend has encountered similar DTS problems with his setup - 750S and another Yamaha decoder (can`t remember the model - 300 something?).

Maybe it`s a batch of Wharfedales, maybe it`s a Wharfedale/Yamaha thing. One thing is for sure, despite making several enquires with Wharfedale, they never came back with a reply. Tesco engineers said that they couldn`t solve it because Wharfedale refused to supply service information.

RE: Lecson/LG 3350 or Alba 103

Didn`t I read something about the Lecson behaving like the Wharfedale 750S with music CDs? Inserting a three second gap between tracks, which is particularly annoying on live albums.

The Lecson is produced by Wharfedale, so it wouldn`t surprise me. The Alba I have no experience of, but I can tell you I`m 100% pleased with my LG 3350...

RE: What`s the difference? LG DVD-3000E & DVD-3200E

>>Have you performed the region free hack and if so did it work `cos I`ve tried the hack and can`t get it to work.<<

Timing is the key; not too fast, not too slow - keep at it, it`ll work...

RE: Lawrence of Arabia Special??? Edition - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!!!!!

I *believe* the re-issue of 2001 A Space Odssey in cinemas right now also has overture music and an intermission; what odds the DVD being the same?

Both the Ben Hur and LoA DVDs benefit from a proper intermission, especially with a chance to hear Miklos Roza`s and Maurice Jarre`s overture and intermission `suites` (choc ice anyone?); though those with DVD multi-changers won`t have to get off their bums with Lawrence will they?

Now if they`d only produce DVDs with proper `double bills` and period Pearl and Dean ads...

RE: White Specks On Jaws 25th Special Edition....BAD TRANSFER?

Saw Jaws a few months ago on the Beeb and was a little shocked at how, I thought then, how badly it had dated; it just seemed tired and badly edited. I`d seen it in the cinema all those years ago and was blown awa, yet here it was again on TV and it seemed so...old.

I`d had Jaws DTS on order, but they screwed up and I wasn`t too fussy when it didn`t arrive after seeing it on TV. Then Future Entertainment had it on offer recently and I thought `what the hell...`

Seeing it on DVD, in the proper aspect, with a beautiful looking print (white specks and all...) just brought it all back again. There was just so much tension; I even jumped when Dreyfuss found the head, although I knew it was coming!

The Beeb`s showing was in the wrong aspect and the print was dreadful; washed out, yellow and grainy. I didn`t believe that it could make so much difference.

Oh, and by the way, a DTS soundtrack helps...

RE: Free £5 Amazon Voucher

Hmmm - pre-ordered O Brother Where Art Thou for just over £11 using the voucher; nice one!

RE: Man On The Moon - £9!!!

Brilliant movie - Jim Carrey is truly magnificent. Would have preferred DeVito to have, er, played DeVito though (if you see what I mean)
Does the R4 have the REM music videos on it? R1 is also DTS (if that matters to you)

RE: Are LG`s anygood?

Some of the info - hack included - for the 3350E applies also to the 3200 and the 3000 (depending on firmware), so have a look at:

RE: LG 3350E and seamless branching

Many DVDs feature deleted scenes; some feature seamless braching to give you the option of incorporating those scenes into the movie. Rather spoils the effect though when the movie`s anamorphic and the deleted scenes aren`t...

RE: Aiwa 370 - why keep banging on about this, when there isn`t any left!!

If it`s the LG you`re after, I understand the LG 3000E that Tesco sell is to all intents and purposes, the same machine...

LG 3350E and seamless branching

Anyone else had trouble with seamless branching on the LG 3350E? Tried it on Region 1 X-Men last night, switched branching to `on` in the disk menu and although the logo appeared on the screen to warn me that branching was about to happen it didn`t.
Switched branching to `off` and bugger me it did it, but only for one scene.
Is it the disk or the player (firmware 1.4 BTW)

Later: oops - now it`s working. Ah, the wonders of DVD...

RE: LG 3200e? A few questions please..

Try:
http://www.direct-electricals.co.uk/lg_dvd3350e_dvd_player.htm

They are listing the LG 3350 as £225 including VAT and delivery; £35 more than Dabs, but at least (they say) they have stock...

RE: Help

Picture and sound out of synchronisation - a bit like watching digital TV and listening to analogue (and vice-versa).

RE: Budget DVD player for Newbie owner

For £99, providing you can find one and you won`t be using DTS (sound drop-outs), you could do worse than the Wharfedale. Tesco are also doing the LG 3000E very reasonably (between £149 - £169 depending on the branch), and you`ll find a decently priced multi-region Pioneer 530/535 at:

www.upgradeheaven.co.uk

RE: Lecson Homepage

I`m pretty sure Wharfedale own the Lecson name, but you won`t get a clue from the website, and the Lecson DVD is a souped up 750...of course, if I`m incorrect I`m sure someone will nip in smartish...

RE: LG3350 I found one but should I......

Worldwide demand for DVDs has exploded in the last few months and there is a chip shortage; wouldn`t surprise me if the American market is taking priority right now...

RE: LG3350E

Home Cinema Choice`s testbed found the inherent s/n ratio to be -72.4dB, which is not too dusty.

Are you saying you`ve found a problem even if you don`t use the on-board decoder? Because I don`t (my Yamaha amp does it very nicely thank you) and haven`t found one...
