VCR head-cleaning advice - please

dvd_vicar (Elite) posted this on Monday, 12th January 2004, 19:10

What is the best/easiest/most effective way of cleaning VCR heads? Will my plan of some IPA and cotton buds be successful?

Any advice greatfully received,
Nick

Pop down to maplins or similar and get yourself a bottle of spray alchohol. a couple of squirts on the picture heads will get them lovely, then use a cotton bud to clean the erase and audio head.

And while you`ve got the bonnet open use an emery board or similar to clean the pinch roller, it is the rubber roller at the end of the tape path. just take the shiney surface off it as this stops the tape wondering up and down the heads.

Good luck.

All the best

Ger.

Just unplug it from the mains first. ;)

use a foam bud instead and not a cotton bud as the cotton fibres may come away and get stuck to the heads!
