DVD recorder, strange picture
Hi All,
I`m new, so please be gentle ;)
I recently bought a Panasonic DMR HS-2 DVD recorder(the one with the 40Gb hard drive). In trying to copy my NTSC video`s(USA format) to dvd-r or ram I get a line across the bottom of my screen which appears to be a scrolled section of the picture from the top of the picture.(the line is about 2" of the screen).
I live in Australia, and all of the gear is NTSC compatible. The VCR is Panasonic, and is fairly new. The TV is Sony trinitron 84cm and is a couple of years old. When I watch the tape on the regular video channel it`s fine. Only when I try to record from the AV channel do I have this problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes

If its the same as the UK HS2-you need to go into the connections set up and change the `tv system` to NTSC in order to record that system.Change it back to PAL after. If these are commercial tapes they may be copy protected.
If Oz vcr`s are like UK ones, your NTSC tapes will play out in PAL 60,not pure NTSC.The HS2 cannot record PAL 60,but Philips and Pioneer recorders can

I also had the same problem. I have a year old Panasonic vcr and it`s supposed to display ntsc pictures, but I also got the band across the bottom when I tried to record via the DMR-E50. I tried to record it on a Sony GX3 and that was totally unwatchable, as the Sony can`t record an ntsc signal. It seems that a lot of machines (vcr`s) these days output pal60 when they`re advertised as ntsc compatible.
I think, as Phelings say`s, you need a vcr that outputs a true ntsc signal, which you can select before you record, as with the panny. Hope this helps.
