Can`t go too far wrong with the Himage 2290 (£110 from Richer Sounds) - Multi-region straight out of the box, plays just about anything (not tested much on it myself, but other folks on this forum are happy). Only disadvantage is no RGB or Component output - just S-video (fine if your TV supports it) and composite. And it`s as cheap as you`ll get at the moment.

No doubt there will be a raft of answers agreeing/disagreeing below, but that`s my two-penneth...

The Himage rules.
it does play Cdr,
it also plays svcd mp3 etc.

Didnt I hear (here I think) the Himage`s at Richer Sounds were water damaged stock?
Hence the squeaks and bubbles.

If so AVOID Richer Sounds

AFAIK, Richer Sounds are the only place in the country that stock the Himage... so if you want one, you aint got a choice...

Actually RicherSounds are very good, unfortunately the Himage is not! No offense to Boris (at least not until I rid the world of him once and for all!) or Shaun but I really do think it`s pants!
Ok so the price is good and it`s small but that`s where it`s good points end.
It has no scart (but the worst is yet to come) from what I`ve seen of the thing it skips like little red riding hood while playing movies and that`s if it recognises the DVD - you may have to reinsert the disc and try again. Rewind and Fast Forward don`t always work and sometimes the thing just locks up. It pixellates on one DVD I saw and the menu`s are just crap along with the remote control. Like I said I don`t want to upset anybody but that was my impression of it when I was checking it out. It`s possible that some of the problems may have been caused by the faulty player, but I doubt that, and besides the player is just too bare-bones.

Just my honest opinion, take or leave it.

007.
