Compacks DVD 101 (again)

Richie L (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 11th August 2004, 10:35

HI i actually work for woolworths so figured with discount and all that i should really take advantage of the low price, i do agree with what most people have been saying though for £100 you cant really argue with it the ease of use is way ahead of a vcr and only marginally more expensive. We have been getting a lot of refunds on them though mostly due to people complaining that they are too complicated to set up, i agree and disagree with this if you are just linking it to the terrestrial signal it is as straightforward as setting up a vcr (although the no input scart is a bit of a sore point) however what i have been having problems with is getting my digibox to run through the av.

My digibox only has 2 scart outlets and no 3pin outlets so i have been using a 3 pin to scart to connect the digibox to the dvd 101, then connecting the tvt to dvd 101 with a scart to scart and 3pin to scart respectively, however although i get the dvd101 display on the tv i just get "av1 no input" "av2 no input" etc i have tried just getting the didgibox as one of my terrestrial channels using rf cables but the picture is awful.

So any help would be greatly appreciated?

This machine should be renamed to "comebacks 101" the 101 refers to the number of units returned to Woolworths each week. :)

Go on buy a Panny! You know you want to! :) :)

Check that the Scart>3 Phono`s cables you are using go the correct way:

ie: TV To DVD Recorder (if the scart side is on the recorder) would be 3 phono>Scart and if the digibox is the reverse (ie Scart on the digibox and 3 phono on DVDR) it would be Scart>3 Phono.
If they both run the same way (say, scarts are both into the recorder side), then the leads would be the same (in that example, 2 of 3 phono>scart cable)

Alternatively, buy a switchable one (or check yours don`t have an in/out switch) and try that.

btw, thats a very common problem for camcorders, the lead has been bought the wrong way round to use with the camera etc.

Advice needed please. Like showman I have also seen these dvd recorders on ebay and have lost out on a couple of bids (probably outbidded by showman). Before I put another bid in and get one of these machines, advice please Are they really as rubbish as everyone says and would you recommend buying them, probably end up paying around £60 like showman. Wanting to use it to transfer my Wedding video onto Dvd and other family footage and record the odd tv show. Does this machine support dvdRW?

Any advice much appreciated to help me decide if to buy this machine. Thank you in advance. (This is my first time posting here so Hi to everyone).

Showman if you go on thier website http://www.wwrs.compacks.com they have a firmware update and a multi region update, burn it to cdr and sorts out some of the problems and makes it multi-region. Will say though havn`t tried this of course!!
