Page 1 of Portable DVD troubles.....

Hi there folks.......

I just bought myself a Mustek PL407H portable DVD player and screen....... Now the guy in the store advised me to buy this over the Venturer player........ One of the things he said it did was allow me to play my X-box, PS2 or GameCube through it.......

Well I bought it yesterday.... and straight away I came on here got a handy regional code for it which worked a treat (Cheers).... how ever I have no idea how to link any of my consoles to it.....

Was this bloke pulling my chain or what.........?

I thought the AV sockets at the side of the player were for that purpose but when I tried to connect my console to the player it didn`t fit........ the AV lead was too small for the AV sockets.........

Am I doing something wrong or is the guy in the shop just talking codsh*t.....?

I would love someone to puit me straight on this if it`s not too much trouble.......

I`ve never seen the player, but looking at this pic I found on Google, it looks like there`s a switch to change the AV socket from IN to OUT, have you looked to see it`s set to IN (presuming that is what it is, the pics a bit small).

You might also need to get a different cable with the right connections if it doesn`t fit as is.

Yeah thats my player alright....... The switch in the middle is an AV in/out switch.......... The out is used to link it to your TV ........ The 3 sockets beside it are mark Audio........ Video and S-video/P-Scan.......

I thought that they were used to plug in any one of my consoles but sadly not.........

My Cyberhome has a software switch (Hit monitor button twice - Power LED goes Orange), does the manual give any clue?

In theory O/P (RCA?) cable to TV (if supplied) should work in the reverse direction.

you will need a 3.5mm male jack plug to 2 phonos one will carry audio signal and other will carry video signal turn the switch to video in presto you will be able to get the leads through maplins cpc etc only couple of quid oh also you might need more adaptors for your console lead etc depends on which one if it just has a scart plug on the end you can get a scart female to phono audio/video with a switch on it too in/out narks me that manufacturers dont supply them i bought the technosonic one from kwik save that didnt come with leads but my daughters yamada did :o

I have just bought a Mustek PL407 and need the region codes to make the player play all region DVD`s. Do you have the hack for this player?

I also just bought a Mustek PL407H, received it today. However I`m disappointed because it won`t play the DVD-RW discs that I`ve recorded on my Sharp VCR/DVDR combi. I read reviews of this portable player before I bought it and they said that it did play DVD-RWs but it won`t play mine. Is it because I`ve recorded them in the VR mode and not the Video mode?

I do have a problem understanding all these compability issues. They don`t explain it very well do they? It seems that it will play DVD+RW discs but I can`t record on them on my Sharp DVDR.

Looks like I will have to transfer my DVD-RW discs onto VHS tape and then copy them back onto DVD-R which is a pain.

As a total beginner at DVD recording, I thought that DVDs were like VHS tapes and you could record them on any machine and play them back on any machine but this is far from the case. Perhaps when hoards of people start taking their machines back because of incompatibility problems, they will either explain it better or get their act together and start making machines which are compatible with each other.
