Digital camera `problem` ??

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Monday, 20th September 2004, 14:15

Apologies if hardware ain`t the right forum for this thread, but I couldn`t see a better one.

I have a Kodak digital camera.
Very basic but easy to use,as is their software.
However I cannot keep the thing in batteries !
I renewed the batteries for a trip to Paris last weekend.
It was switched off when I put it in the suitcase, and was still switched off when I got to the hotel.
As soon as I switched it on it switched itself off with the low battery warning flashing !
So I went out and bought some new ones over there. (kodak lithium things)
I got to around 13 photos (switching off in between) and the damned thing wanted new batteries AGAIN !!! :/ >:(
Seriously,I cannot keep up with the added expense of batteries.

Have I a case for taking it back to PC world (I bought it 30th May) ?

Can I buy one for reasonable money that allows for mains recharging, like a mobile phone ? :/

Hi

We have the Kodak DX6340 (I think off the top of my head!) and have never had a battery issue at all with it. We use the Kodak rechargable pack that came with the Printer Dock and, whilst on holiday, nearly filled a 256MB SD card. The batteries were still fine when we got home.

A trip to PC World may be on the cards methinks....

Cheers

Hi Bowfer, I have a kodak camera too, and it`s suddenly got very fussy about batteries. I admittedly did buy cheap ones, but they wouldn`t even switch it on and I`m sure they`ve worked in the past. I am debating returning mine, but not sure what they would say. They might just tell me to use better batteries.

NiMH or li-ion rechargables on a minimum of 1700Ma.

I think B&Q were selling 2000 Ma Panasonics a bit back for a fiver for four, damned good buy they were....

Anyways, don`t use standard batteries, they are a waste of time in a digi-camera.
(The camera reports them "dead" after a few photos, but they`re actually fine for anything other than a digital camera!!)

It`s to do with the way the camera uses the power, I don`t know the technical side of it, but basically it can only use summat like 2 to 5% or a normal battery, but 75% of a NimH or Li-ion rechargable!
Higher the Ma (milliamp) rating, the longer they last.

Although....you say you bought a Kodak CAMERA battery...?
that should have lasted a bit longer than you mention!

< EDIT > Just re read and you said lithium....was it a lithium "camera" battery Bowfer?

Just `normal` Kodak AAA lithium jobees.
I`ll try buying a rechargeable set of the type you`ve recommended.
I like the camera otherwise.

I`m looking in the argos book just now.
They do a uniross charger c/w a set of 4 x AA Ni-Mh 2000mAh batteries for £17.99 all-in.
These sound like the right sort of spec ? :/

Sounds absolutely fine to me, and if the camera chews up the power from them too, time for a trip to PCW ;)
