Page 1 of Schneider 511 Problems
Hardware Forum
*Ive just posted this by mistake in Region Hacks! Whoops. Bound to get flamed*
Anyway...
Ive just bought The League of Gentlemen, Rock Horror Picture Show and Wrestlemania 2000 and a Schneider 511 from Asda.
For a while it didn`t want to play anything other than the wwf video (fine by me but not by the other half). LOG wouldn`t play. The Rocky Horror played then crashed with lots of multicoloured squares and wouldn`t do anything, not even eject. I switched it off and back on.Now it seems to work again. And all the discs work.
Not having much money I`m undecided if I should take it back and buy a more expensive one or continue, perhaps it was a one off?
Anyone else had this problem?
Have a bought a hunk of junk?
I`m pretty sure that Currys have the same player branded as Oritron, Again can anyone shed light?
Thanks
RR
RE: Schneider 511 Problems
Do not know anything about the Schneider 511 but there was some information a few months back regarding the Oritron 600 and if the Schneider 511 is the same player as the Oritron 600 it could apply here. Unable to confirm though whether this was an isolated incident.
It seemed that certain disks when played on the Oritron 600 needed a clean memory/system - turning the player off completely by the power plug. If many discs had been played and one of these certain discs was put in it would crash the player (more often than not) and there would multicoloured squares - exactly as you described. Once this happened the disc was never able to be played - neither were many others and the only way to cure this was to disconnect from the power. Once this was done everything worked fine, every disc could be played and there seemed to be no problem - again as you have discovered. Many discs could be played without problems it was just a certain few that needed this "clean" environment.
The 3 discs that could crash the player were the James Bond Special Edition titles:- On Her Majesty`s Secret Service, Live And Let Die and For Your Eyes Only - the same 3 discs that the Matsui 110 had problems with. So before playing any of these titles the player was turned off at the mains which was annoying as everything was set to the default settings but this way the machine never crashed.
Hope this helps.
