I have one of these. I paid £220.00 from John Lewis(price matched)
I have recorded on only -RW disks and they are fine.
I haven`t got any RAM discs to try.
-RWs will play back on my other cheapo dvd players after finalising.
It has DV input for digital camcorders, though I have not yet transfered any camcorder recordings to DVD`s yet.
The timer function is pretty user friendly.
I believe that the machine does NOT have RGB IN, but it has SVHS in & DV input.

Ihaven`t used it much, but from what little use it has had, I have pleased with it.

The lack of RGB in is the only negative thing about the complete JVC range(although they may have corrected it on the MX1).As it is they let themselves down, although DV input is pretty hard to find on a machine at the price of £220.
But John Lewis will not supply JVC stuff as multiregion, you would need a specialist dealer for that.

There are plenty of dvd recorders out there with RGB input, but if you insist on the JVC then as you have Sky+ you can use its s-video out socket to the JVC for near RGB results.

Do you have any stuttering problems when playing back on other DVD players?
When using -RW my discs seem to occasionally stutter during playback. This
stuttering is not there when viewed on the JVC recorder.

Be interested to know.
