Page 1 of Phillips 711 or Samsung 511???

I have found both of these for £150 - any advice on which I go for? Are both multi-region?

i can only speak for the philips, but can wholeheartedly recommend it. its not multi-region out of the box but i believe there are hacks for it. you should find it on these pages somewhere. i got mine `chipped` though and i can safely say itll play all discs no problem even RCE discs. ive never had any problems, the picture and sound are great and i think for £150 its a bloody good price.....

Totally agree with the above thred, i got a Philips 711 about a month ago and it`s top class for the price. I also had a Samsung 511 for a short time, it was a good player with a good picture but i`d go for the Philips 711 as i feel its a much better alround player. To make it multi-region you either need to get it chipped, or you can buy a oneforall emote and hack it with that. I used the oneforall remote which i bought from Argos, hacked it and then took the remote back to Argos the same day as i did`t really have a need for it. The Philips plays all DVDs you throw at it and like said above even RCE titles that are being used more now. Over all a great machine for a great price, go for the Philips.

I got a Samsung a couple of weeks ago and am really pleased with it. Multi region via a remote hack...RCE disks work too. Picture and sound are top notch and so far not a single complaint (except i almost wish i got an onboard 5.1 decoder)....nevermind

I tested 2 samy 511`s and a 811, the 511`s i tested where terrible, real bad layer changing and the 811 is also slightly dodgy with a few split second pauses

Happy with my Samsung 511. Depends if you want multi region cause if the Phillips needs chipped then it doesn`t only cost £150 then eh?

I bought a philips dvd 750 and i also bought a one4all remote control and i got that hack.You said your philips 711 played rce disks,I was just wondering do rce disks work on the philips dvd 750 with that hack.I would be very greatfull.
