Page 1 of Philips DVD Recorder Problem

Hello

Can anyone help.

I have philips dvdr80. What is happening is the machine seems to be working fine apart from it is not able to read any disk that I put in to it.

As soon as I put in any disk, it says reading and then says no disk.

Does anyone know what has gone wrong. The machine is now out of its warranty of course!!

Do you think that it is a problem with the cd drive in the machine, or would it be some other peice of hardward in it?

I was thinking of buying a cheep "faulty" one from ebay if it is likely to be a certin part of it that can just be swapped over.

Any idea are really welcomed.

The old Philips problem rears it`s ugly head again I see. If you don`t get a definitive answer here, then try this link http://www.dvdplusrw.org/. It`s a site specifically devoted to the foibles of the plus RW system.

Philips have a 2 year warranty on these machines due to all the problems.

Check with your dealer first, and then try Philips directly, as they will nearly always repair if you have the original proof of purchase.

They extended the warranty to 2 years on the awful 880/890 series but not sure whether this one counts.
This is a typical Philips problem.The +RW forum is full of plonkas saying how great the machines are even though that forum has many similsr problems.
Posts on the AV Forums suggest Philips is pulling out of production and concentrating on R&D and licensing.Godd jo too.But the problem with the recorder will need a return to Philips.If they want you to pay,scrap it and buy a Pioneer or Panasonic recorder.Kill 2 birds with one stone.Get rid of the Philips and get a decent recorder all at the same time
