Panasonic DMRE55...problem

brodyhooperquint (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 8th December 2004, 15:25

Hi... has anyone had their timer recordings end before the programme you are recording finishes?...This happens to me sometimes both when I`m using videoplus and also the normal timer recording method. PDC is always on.
I know it`s definatley finishing early because the space used is less than it should be.

Could this be because I have`nt formatted the disk?...do you need to format on a regular basis?...I use Panasonic ram disks which I have`nt formatted...I used them straight away after opening them.

This is my second DMRE55 (first one dead)...I`m getting rather p****d off with Panasonic. >:(

Never used videoplus.
Always use the timer recrding though.
You don`t have to format RAM discs.
I always start my recordings a wee bit early and end them a wee bit over.
Never had a problem.

Try recording using the timer only, allowing extra at the start and the beginning and without the PDC on.
I`m guessing maybe the PDC is telling the machine your programme is finished when it`s not.

i haven`t used VP - just timer rec and I always put PDC on and I haven`t had a problem as yet.

Suppose you must be selecting an appropriate recording quality, or else it would give you a warning under the `space` column.

My guess is erring towards it being a Videoplus/PDC problem.
I tried these things years ago,in my VHS days, and had nothing but problems like the one you describe.
Anything that has the power to `stop` your recording without your permission is bad,IMO.

yeah the disk is blank, and I usually record in LP mode anyway so there is tons of room on the disk...it should`nt stop when it feels like it.
I have had nothing but trouble with Panasonic machines...I`m thinking of replacing it with the JVC vcr combo as it does ram as well....more expense I can`t afford! >:(

Have you tried recording without videoplus and without PDC yet ?
If it records fine without those then you can`t really blame Panasonic if outside `systems` are telling the machine to stop recording before the programme is finished.

I never bother with PDC or videoplus (maybe I`m a bit of a luddite about some things). I just start early and finish late, then trim off either side.

Yes bowfer...I`ve tried that... I set it earlier and it did`nt even start to record never mind finishing early! >:( damn pile of s**t >:(
I would`nt mind so much but this is the machine Panasonic sent me as a replacement for a dead one so you can imagine how frustrated I am >:(

PDC does not function on any digital services. Some machines will not record if you set PDC on and no PDC activation arrives.PDC does work on analogue but not ITV.Are you recording these?
Easiest option is to enter the V+ code then manually extend either side
