Manual for old Akai Video ?
Okay, first off - apologies if this is off-topic, but I couldn`t think where else to post it.
I was just given an old Akai VHS recorder VS-G815, it`s about 10 years old . I have the remote but not the manual. Can anyone tell me how I can get a manual or download one?
I emailed Akai but never got a reply.
Or - if anyone is familiar with these machines - do you know what the "RC Code A-B" button does on the remote?

They`re probably trying to find anyone old enough there to remember the model....
;)

oi! Careful Bowfer...I think I can remember them :D
Now..the 815.....was that the LP one that had a Satellite "by pass" function with 3 phon`s and one scart?
Flip top, programmable remote?
Or was it the one with the straight remote with no LCD that had on screen programming and 2 scarts?
(if it`s the first, I might have the manual!
If the second...I don`t)
<edit> just noticed the comment about the remote. It`s a switch to change remote frequencies from "A" to "B" to prevent interference between other infra red remotes if I remember correctly

RE: Manual for old Akai Video ?
Yes it`s LP.
It`s got 2 scarts on the back, plus a red-white-yellow set of jacks on the front (there are more of those on the back too! But I can`t figure out how to use them since there`s only 2 AV channels according to the remote.)
It also has two manual knobs on the front for Rec level and Headphone levels.
I pressed the RC button once and I couldn`t operate the video at all. I pressed it a few more times and got control back, so it does sound like what you`re talking about.
It even has a 16:9 widescreen mode! So quite ahead of it`s time. altho I still can`t figure out what this actually means on a video, I had another video with that function but it never changed anything when I used it. someone told me that it`s merely an interface with sattellite broadcasts, but I still don`t get it. on a dvd 16:9 basically means anamorphic, but that`s not the case with videos.

We had the Akai with the flip-top remote, and LCD display. The catch wasn`t too good, and it would sometimes flip up of it`s own accord. You had to keep bending the plastic catch to get it to stay shut.
I don`t recognise that model number though, so think it`s a different model. Ours didn`t have any satellite functions either.
