RE: The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King [Collector`s Edn] is just £3.97
yeah, just had an email saying min`es on the way too , I was actually expecting them to say they couldn`t honor it .
Woo-hoo!

RE: Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
Thanks for that .
Don`t think `ll bother buying them then .

Are the R2 Die Hard movies cut ?
I see the Die Hard trilogy going quite cheaply , I like these movies but heard in the past that the R2 versions are cut .
is this true ?

Macrovision Hacks ?
Are there any dvd players currently on the market that can be Macrovision hacked?
I mean - switch off the macrovision .
g
The Abyss - only available in Letterbox version ?
The Abyss is one of my favorite films, but as far as I can tell it`s only available in Letterbox version .
Has there ever been an Anamorphic version of this film ?
RE: Fight Club - Definitive Edition.
Is there any new footage in this "uncut" edition ? compared to the R2 version from a few years ago. I mean is the film itself actually longer?

Need region hack for: onnDS8643
Does anyone know a region hack for this DVD recorder which Asda are selling -

RE:
How are they going to complete Donner`s Superman 2 cut?
I mean it had huge chunks of different story some of which wasn`t even filmed.
And then there`s the FX - have they just done them ?
And then there`d be all the foley work etc. Reeve is dead, and what about Hackman et al?
RE: Complete Thunderbirds £29.99
there`s something iffy about that offer - at the bottom it lists the running time as 999 minutes .
well 32 episodes x 50 minutes = 1600 minutes and that`s without even counting the extras .
From what I know the complete series is in two box sets, so this may be only one box set containing half the episodes .

RE:
yeah i know the old edition was letterbox that`s why i never bought it, but i looked at the new 2 disc version and it does say letterbox on the back of that one too.
thanks for the virgin link, but what is on the extra 3 discs in the 5 disc version ?
g
RE:
4 Disc version ??
5 disc version ?
I haven`t seen this, what`s on the extra discs?
I did look at the 2 disc version but it said on the back that it was Letterbox so I didn`t buy it, is this correct - is it still letterbox and not anamorphic ?

Panasonic TX28DTM1 tv sound problems
I just bought this panasonic tv from Argos. The picture is great, but the sound is awful, and I`m not one of these people who demand `pro-logic 7.1` etc.
It`s worse than my old mono set, I`ve gone into the sound menu but when I turn up the bass there`s no difference, it`s as if the speaker is missing or something is smothering it .
This is a Nicam tv with integrated freeview .
Has anyone else heard of any problems with this model?
RE: If a TV has integrated Freeview can I record from it?
Merriman,
do you think it`s a good tv ?
And does it have both analog and digital tuners?
I`ve heard that panasonic tvs are very good .
If a TV has integrated Freeview can I record from it?
This may sound like a daft question but -
If a tv has integrated Freeview can I record from it onto the video ?
In other words - does the Digital tuner in the TV have an "OUT" ?
You see I`m thinking of buying a panasonic tv - TX28 PN1 - for £299 , but for another £50 I can buy one with Freeview integrated in it .
btw - do these tvs have both analog and digital tuners?
Are There any DVD players which are Macro-free ?
Are there any dvd players on the market at the moment that are without macrovision ?
Or ones that can have the macro disabled via a hack etc.
In the UK .
Panasonic TVs
I want a new widescreen tv, and by all accounts Panasonic is the best .
My main requirements are that it has a great picture. I`m not really bothered about things like Dolby Surround or whatever.
Thing is - the Panasonic tvs vary quite a bit in price . I`ve seen 28inch panasonic tvs from £260 to £600 or more . Is there really any difference in pic quality between them ?

RE: Panasonic DMR-E55 - £169.99 at John Lewis with 2 yr gtee
So are these panasonics good?
cos I heard that there`s an issue of compatability with other players -- are they DVD-RW or +RW ?
I want a machine that is hassle free, I want to record stuff then play it on my other machine or lend it to a friend etc.

RE: Freeview Boxes
Well I know I`m in a good area, I checked that out.
But now I need a digi aerial ? Jeez.
So do i have to replace my analog aerial? How will that affect my analog pics ?
I`m reluctant to change my aerial cos it`s in the loft and it`s so difficult trying to figure out if it`s pointing at the right angle etc. If I get someone in to do it how much could that cost?
g
Freeview Boxes
Can anyone recommend a good Freeview Box?
I was bought an Echostar T-101 for Xmas, but it`s only good for certain freeview channels, the others keep breaking up .
My signal on the analogue channels is very good, so I don`t think it`s my aerial .
So what are others` experiences ?
And what do you think are the best Boxes?

RE: Ultimate Matrix Collection
Damn.
Well I`ll probably give it a miss then. I mean I love the matrix films, but I was l aready borderline about whether to buy it, and £40+ is a lot of money .
I think the cuts do matter, the fights in the matrix are so beautifully choreographed, there`s several cuts to the morpheus fight and the Neo - smith fight and it does distract.
If it was just one cut like in aotc then i wouldn`t care.
The BBFC make no sense, it`s a 15 rated movie, why should head butts be cut?
Terminator 3 had some very gruesome violence - a guy smashes his fist all the way through a cop`s body and it got a 12 rating !
I don`t like NTSC versions, the picture quality is never as good.
I could hunt down a R4 copy i suppose, but it would depend on the price.
g
RE: Ultimate Matrix Collection
I did mean the Ultimate Collection - If M1 has been left cut then that would put me off buying it .
Thing is - it must have been resubmitted because it has a commentary on it and they have to be classified as well .
Has anyone actually bought , or know anyone who has actually bought the R2 version and checked.
It`s crazy because channel 5 have shown the matrix about 4 times uncut . bloody bbfc!
g
RE: Ultimate Matrix Collection
Can anyone confirm whether the R2 version has the full version of the Matrix (head butts) or not.
How do you guys get the R4 version ? Where from?

RE: Manual for old Akai Video ?
Yes it`s LP.
It`s got 2 scarts on the back, plus a red-white-yellow set of jacks on the front (there are more of those on the back too! But I can`t figure out how to use them since there`s only 2 AV channels according to the remote.)
It also has two manual knobs on the front for Rec level and Headphone levels.
I pressed the RC button once and I couldn`t operate the video at all. I pressed it a few more times and got control back, so it does sound like what you`re talking about.
It even has a 16:9 widescreen mode! So quite ahead of it`s time. altho I still can`t figure out what this actually means on a video, I had another video with that function but it never changed anything when I used it. someone told me that it`s merely an interface with sattellite broadcasts, but I still don`t get it. on a dvd 16:9 basically means anamorphic, but that`s not the case with videos.
g
Manual for old Akai Video ?
Okay, first off - apologies if this is off-topic, but I couldn`t think where else to post it.
I was just given an old Akai VHS recorder VS-G815, it`s about 10 years old . I have the remote but not the manual. Can anyone tell me how I can get a manual or download one?
I emailed Akai but never got a reply.
Or - if anyone is familiar with these machines - do you know what the "RC Code A-B" button does on the remote?

RE: DVD Rent by Post Promo Codes - ?
I found Screenselect to be pretty good.
Blockbuster kept telling me that they couldn`t find any titles to send (even tho I had over 25 on my list!).
Dvds365 are okay, altho I never seem to get the titles at the top of my list.
Lovefilm were okay.
I can`t complain cos I`ve had 4 weeks free from all of them, but obviously the trial also tells you how they operate. The main problem is that you can`t decide what you`ll get, they all just send out the next title available and that tends to preclude the most recent titles.
g
DVD Rent by Post Promo Codes - ?
I`ve been using some of the sites that rent movies by post -
ScreenSelect, Blockbutser, Lovefilm etc.
I`ve had a 4 week trial from each of them.
Does anyone know of any other sites offering 4 week free trials ? And the appropriate promo codes?
cheers.

It just won`t open on mine.

RE: DVD Burners
"1 Yes"
Do you mean "yes it works the same as a CD burner" or "yes there`s more to it" ?
Could we go thru it in baby steps -
say I buy a DVD Burner, I put in a DVD, it reads it, then where does it store it? In my computer`s hardrive? Won`t that require a lot of memory space? How much? Tell me if I`ve gone down the wrong track here.
Then I put a blank disc in the burner and tell the computer to give the file to the burner which then burns it on the disc. Am I close?

DVD Burners
In simple terms - how does a DVD burner work?
I`ve noticed that they only cost about £60. But is that all you need?
1. I`ve got a CD Burner, do they work the same way? Put a disc in, computer reads it, put in blank disc and the computer writes on it. Or is there more to it?
2. Does the DVD Burner have a hard drive in it which records the DVD ?
3. Does the DVD burner strip out macrovisison?
